Date: 08/19/2008

Hudson will transform into a 19th Century village on Saturday, September 13, 2008, as the community remembers it’s rich heritage and celebrates its long and colorful history during the first ever Hudson History Days.

Planned are re-enactments from the era complete with the popular porch stories tours, an all-Ohio hotcakes breakfast using ingredients such as Ohio maple syrup and flapjack mix and a settler’s supper on the Park Lane green, musical entertainment and staged events reminiscent of the early 1800’s and colorful street performers throughout town.Other attractions will include storytelling, spinning and quilting demonstrations as well as barbershop quartets and historical figures from Hudson’s past.

“Hudson is a town with rich history and unique charm and we would like to share that with the residents and surrounding communities,” said John MacWherter, president, Merchants of Hudson.

Kathie Franks, local writer and creator of Porch Stories, added, “our town was built on the courage and determination of the early settlers.Their stories reach out to everyone and strengthen our community ties.”

Hudsonites take great pride in both the community’s history and historic residents such as David Hudson, John Brown and James W. Ellsworth.Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Hudson’s role in the Underground Railroad, superior architecture and dedication to commerce and education which helped shape the surrounding region, will be celebrated throughout the event.
