Summit County Chapter Emergency Services Director Accepts National Position
By: Jackie ZavodneyDate: 07/31/2008
Tim Settles, Director of Emergency Services for the Summit County Chapter, American Red Cross, has accepted a position with National Headquarters as the State Disaster Officer for Ohio and Pennsylvania. Tim will be working out of Columbus. In his role, Tim will be working with the regional chapters within these two states with capacity building, readiness and response. His last day working for the Summit County Chapter will be August 22, 2008.
As a State Disaster Officer Tim will focus on building a strong base of regional chapter groupings with the state and supporting the regional chapter with the tools to build strong local programs, including community chapters. The Officer coordinates the state response plan with plans developed by state agencies and in collaboration with the State Relations Representative.
While this is an excellent opportunity for Tim and is great for the American Red Cross, it is obviously bittersweet for all of us locally who have had the privilege of working with Tim.
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
