Picasso said the purpose of art is washing the daily dust off our souls. If that’s true, prepare for a thorough dusting as you enjoy original artwork, including paintings and drawings, handmade clothing, one-of-a-kind jewelry, glassware and more at The Art Gallery in Willoughby. The Beaded Lady bead shop is also located within the gallery.

“Art is expressed here in so many mediums,” says George Ann Trembour, artist and owner. “You’ll explore art styles familiar to you and even be introduced to something new. With new artists always being showcased, there’s a surprise around every corner.”

George Ann has a BA in fine arts, a master’s degree in art education and she taught art for 36 years in the public schools. Always interested in opening their own gallery, George Ann and her husband decided to purchase this existing gallery from the original owner, Dan Struna, 20 years ago.

“We decided to continue the tradition that Dan started,” says George Ann. “So, we moved the gallery to this Mentor Avenue location where we can showcase original art in a vignette style. Pieces are displayed in a home-like setting so you can envision the art in your own home.”

It may be the teacher in her, but George Ann loves to educate people about all forms of art, and introduce them to new artists both local and from around the country.

“Art must be seen to be appreciated,” says George Ann. “We are proud to give artists a space to show off their talents.”

Opening Friday, October 12, with a public reception from 6:00-9:00 p.m., is a display of the works of painter George Kocar. His works include his famous skulls, monsters, witches and Ghoulardi.

The holiday season will begin with an open house on Friday, November 9, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., featuring Cats and Dogs by Gerry Shamray, George Kocar and friends. This show will have very affordable, loveable and desirable originals and prints available for gift giving.

The Art Gallery offers classes in watercolors, pastels, drawing and beading. New to their schedule is a day of silk painting, offered on Saturday, December 15. Call for details and to add your name to the list.

And for unique holiday gifts, The Art Gallery will be taking part in Small Business Saturday, on November 24. You’ll find specials on jewelry, glassware, jackets, purses and more.

“So many things are available at reasonable prices,” says George Ann. “You will be surprised at how affordable it is to own, or give, an original work of art.”

And don’t forget framing. The Art Gallery is offering 15 percent off all framing, Thursday, November 15, through Saturday, December 15.

“We have hundreds of frame styles and do all framing on-site, with archival materials to protect your artwork or heirloom,” says George Ann.

“Bring your artwork, needlework, or special treasure in and we can protect and preserve it for you at a very reasonable price.”

When you are looking for that special gift for someone or even for yourself, be sure to shop at The Art Gallery. You will find an array of beautiful items from both local artists and artists across the country, all made in America.
