Angela Van Der Oord of Avon Lake admits to being a gym-aphobe. She says she’s always been put off by gyms and fitness equipment.

Luckily, she’s an avid tennis player and has never had an issue with her weight.

But when this bubbly Baby Boomer turned the calendar over from her 60s to her 70s, she began to notice a few aches and pains creeping into her daily life.

“I saw the story about MaxStrength Fitness in Mimi Magazine in April of 2016, talking about how professional the trainers were, setting up the machines and programs for people, and thought to myself, I can do this,” says Angie, who is a mother of four and grandmother of eight. “My children were involved in sports growing up and I understand the importance of staying active and engaging all of your muscles. I thought that it was time to get stronger and healthier so I can continue to stay active into my senior years. All I can say of my experience with MaxStrength is that it has been a gift.”

She says the trainers push her to the exhaustion point, yet, she’s never felt sore afterward, as they make sure to modify movements to her fitness levels.

“Since starting I’ve felt trimmer and much stronger,” she says. “I appreciate how much better my body performs.”

The philosophy at MaxStrength Fitness differs from other gyms on many levels. Unlike most places that charge a monthly fee then don’t really engage with people after they join, MaxStrength is all about building successful working relationships between trainers and clients.

Her nine-year-old granddaughter has been improving at tennis and is starting to give her a good game, but Angie doesn’t think she’ll be admitting defeat anytime soon.

At Last, Workouts that Work for You

You don’t need to devote a big chunk of your precious time, either. All it takes is two 20-minute sessions each week. And since the studio temps are kept in the 60s, you don’t sweat during workouts, so no worries about having to shower or redo your hair or makeup after. They can easily be squeezed into a lunch hour, or on your way to work.

Backed by Proven Science, Research
Jeff’s extensive background in exercise science led him to specialize in this transformative training method.

“Research has illustrated the amazing results of limiting sessions to twice a week and maxing the muscles to the point of fatigue so they can rebuild stronger during the downtime,” he explains. “Studies have also found the direct connection between muscle mass and preventing disease and injury, which is so important now.”

Pandemic-Proofing the Studio
When Covid-19 hit this spring, the studios closed down briefly to put protocols into place for the safest level of operation.

They partnered with The Germ-Free Company, providing personal protective equipment (gloves and masks), and continuous disinfecting of the equipment and common areas.

For higher risk clients, they also offer one-on-one virtual training. Check out their site for online success stories.
