At Peters Professional Landscaping, a total spring spruce-up is kind of their thing
By Patricia Nugent
The official first day of spring clocked in on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. But as is often the case in the CLE, spring-like weather takes its sweet time to make an appearance—not until April, or sometimes May.
According to the Farmer’s Almanac forecast, this spring we can look forward to normal to slightly below normal temperatures and plenty of rain, ideal conditions for greening up your lawn and putting in new landscaping.
So, now’s the time to make a call to the trusty folks at Peters Professional Landscaping.
“Spring yard clean-up is a job that’s best left to professionals,” says Chris Peters, who founded the business in 1992.
“What most people think of as mundane and back-wrenching chores—raking out beds, removing debris, edging, laying mulch, reseeding the grass, pruning and trimming trees and shrubs—is actually our passion.”
Mission Possible: Eye-catching Beds
“You cannot underestimate the importance of mulch to the overall look of your yard,” says General Manager Josh Riley. “Not only does the right color bring life to your landscaping and complement your home, mulch also serves the dual purpose of conserving moisture in the soil and suppressing weed growth. From an environmental standpoint, it also reduces erosion and sediment runoff.”
Josh suggests people call sooner rather than later since mulch is a big part of their spring business and their schedule gets jam-packed.
“We buy in bulk and can offer great prices, with loads of selections in color and shred,” he says.
Other time-sensitive jobs they specialize in include putting in new lawns and reseeding existing ones. Josh says the optimum time to do that is mid-May, so the seed germination takes place before the heat of summer.
When planning new beds, one of the gentlemen will sit down with you to help create a design that reflects your favorite species and colors, making sure to have a final product that blooms throughout the spring, summer and fall.
Back to the Great Outdoors
Each year over the past 27 years, Peters has expanded the ways it can beautify your outdoor space, branching out from landscaping and lawn maintenance to hardscapes such as patios and pavilions, firepits and arbors.
If you have an existing patio you’d like to improve upon, or wish to create a new space, Peters can create a look that is gorgeous and built to last. As an Authorized Unilock Contractor, they only work with the best quality pavers that come with a lifetime warranty on parts.
“People want to bring all the creature comforts of the indoors to their outdoor living spaces, including fireplaces, kitchens, bars and televisions,” says Chris. “Whether for entertaining or everyday enjoyment, we’re finding folks are spending as much if not more dollars on their outdoor spaces than they do indoors.”
In addition to an array of fire pits and fireplaces, Josh says a growing trend is water features, from colorful Koi ponds to trickling fountains.
Kick Back on Functional Furniture
After the patio is laid and landscape planted, it’s time to put your feet up and grab your red Solo cup.
As a full-service operation, Peters sells a line of super durable and stylish Amish-made outdoor furniture.
The sophisticated styles come in 42 colors that can be mixed and matched, including natural wood shades, in pieces that range from chairs, rockers and gliders, to swings, accent tables and dining tables.
Peters also offers Amish-crafted Weaver barns, sheds and pavilions that provide a charming gathering space in any yard.
