If the Guhde family were to stage a reality HGTV show at their new kitchen and bath design center, the breakout star would undoubtedly be Cambria countertops. They harness all the elements of true star power: High style, drop-dead good looks, a dramatic flair and the lasting durability to shine even in a tough business that chips away at its integrity daily.

“I would say that once customers see our samples in the showroom, as well as the complete installed looks within the finished kitchens and baths, that more than half end up going with Cambria over other types of countertops,” says Shawn Rosa, sales manager at Guhde Flooring America in Painesville.

He explains that Cambria is an engineered quartz product that comes in more than 140 colors and styles ranging from deeply patterned and veined like marble or granite, to a more uniform pattern. Cambria is far more durable than other natural stone products, such as granite, which is only 40-60 percent quartz. Since it’s nonporous, you don’t have to polish or seal it.

Another plus with Cambria is all of the edge treatments that are possible. “One of the hottest edge treatments, on display now in our design center, is the waterfall edge, in which a seamless edge spills over the side and down the cabinetry, just like a waterfall,” says Shawn.

“Cambria is available in one-, two- and three-centimeter thicknesses. Various edge profiles can also create the look of a thicker slab. Another choice involves the finish. Cambria comes polished or matte.”

He says Cambria is known in the business as a pioneer when it comes to creating designs from the best quality of quartz.

“The possibilities are endless,” says office manager Monica Guhde Rosa. “Beyond counters and backsplashes, we are seeing people install a dramatic panel of Cambria in their showers.”

As we edge toward the middle of tax refund redemption season, Shawn and Monica say a kitchen and bath remodel is at the top of most people’s “to spend” list.
