“There is nothing better than St. Patrick’s Day in Cleveland on a Saturday,” says Sean Lackey, who, along with his wife, Michelle, owns Gandalf’s Pub & Restaurant. “We practice here all year long.”

This cozy neighborhood eatery serves Irish favorites such as Vienna Corned Beef Boxtys, Shepherd’s Pie and Irish Nachos year-round, and it has Guinness Beer on tap.

“We will set up a tent and heaters outside on our patio on St. Patrick’s Day to extend the party outdoors,” says Sean, noting that the restaurant is also celebrating its third anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day.

Located in a historic home built in the late 1800s, which was once a general store with hitching posts out front, this locally owned restaurant exudes charm with a European pub atmosphere.

“We have daily lunch specials Tuesday through Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m.,” Michelle notes. “Gandalf’s also caters special events both at the restaurant and off premise. We can bring the European flavor to you.”

More than just an Irish flavor, the restaurant cuisine has European influences, too. Comfort foods on the menu include Beef Stroganoff, Chicken Cacciatore and Smoked Pork Mac & Cheese. Plus, a Burger Board featuring 100 percent Certified Angus Beef has innovative toppings and flavors, including Sriracha spiced burgers and roasted wild mushrooms.

From the new Wedge Salad to the Adult Grilled Cheese, Portobello Sandwich and Lake Erie Perch, everything is made from scratch.

“Our Lake Erie Perch is crusted with Ritz crackers and has a buttery, sweet flavor that complements the fish,” says Sean.

“We are a scratch kitchen,” adds Michelle, noting the kitchen does not have a microwave. “From our hand-cut fries seasoned with seven spices to our 11 homemade salad dressings, our emphasis is on fresh fare.”

“Our mixologists even make our own bitters from herbs grown in our garden and use freshly grown mint in our cocktails,” adds Sean. “We also work with a sommelier to select wines from around the globe and have an extensive cocktail menu.”

Gandalf’s Pub & Restaurant is located at 6757 Center Road in Valley City.
