Vivify Wellness at Avenues is pleased to announce the addition of Jennifer Saferstein—nationally renowned acupuncturist and published author—to head up its acupuncture department.

Trained through post-graduate studies at Bastyr University in Washington (known as “the Harvard of natural health medicine”), Jennifer’s interest in acupuncture and its power to heal is personal. While in middle school, she was afflicted with debilitating psoriatic arthritis. After traditional medicine did not help, and she had to be home-schooled, a doctor suggested she try acupuncture. It worked miraculously. Now, 20 years later, she is still without pain or symptoms.

“Acupuncture gave me my life back, and now I use this tool to help others,” says Jennifer.

She began her acupuncture career in New York City before returning to Northeast Ohio 10 years ago.

“I’m thrilled to be working in this beautiful space with these lovely ladies,” she adds.

What You Need to Know About Acupuncture
The practice of acupuncture is much the same today as it was 3,000 years ago in China. What’s changed is how accepted and mainstream it’s become.

In fact, in 2003, the World Health Organization published a report of more than 30 conditions that acupuncture was proven to treat effectively, from chronic back pain and migraines to arthritis, fibromyalgia, insomnia, digestive issues, weight loss, anxiety, stress, and hot flashes, just to name a few. The treatment also helps trigger facial rejuvenation, fostering smoother, brighter skin.

Jennifer uses tiny needles, smaller than a human hair, at specific points in the body to stimulate the nervous system.

“I use tiny needles, smaller than a human hair, at specific points in the body to stimulate the nervous system,” says Jennifer. “The nerves send signals to the brain, and then the brain releases neural hormones in response. This clears energy blockages and restores the body to a balanced state.”

Group vs. One-on-One Sessions
During a one-on-one session, you’ll first give a medical history to Jennifer and discuss the specific areas you’d like to improve. Then she formulates a plan of action. You’ll lay on a soothing heated massage table during treatment.

“Like a trickle in a pond, I recommend beginning with more frequent sessions, then spacing them out further, from weekly to monthly to seasonally,” says Jennifer. “Everyone is different. We are awakening sensitivities. Most people feel improvement after one session, others take a few sessions.”

If clients have an issue with needles, Jennifer also offers needle-free acupuncture, which utilizes metal disks, in 24K and sterling silver, to redirect the energy pathways.

For those new to acupuncture, or with less in-depth symptoms to work on, Vivify also offers group acupuncture. The semi-private classes take place on Tuesday evenings within the restorative salt room, a haven of detoxification and relaxation with a glowing wall of salt blocks, soft lighting and zero-gravity lounges.

In addition to acupuncture, Vivify offers a host of wellness treatments and services including yoga, Urban Zen yoga, an infrared sauna, interactive online nutritional counseling, massage therapy, reiki and NeurOptimal neurofeedback.

Clients remain fully clothed and receive acupuncture at five points around the ears to ease anxiety, stress, mood and cravings.
