Though Ohio hovers in the middle of national state rankings in terms of median household income, our state ranks in the top 10 for spending on home improvements.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, the only states that outspend people in Ohio are those in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois.

“We have a lot of small, close-knit neighborhoods where residents take pride in the way their house looks,” says Joe Kaye, who, along with his brother, Josh, and father, Ron, owns Kaye Construction.

“There are also many older homes in our area that were built in the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s that can benefit from remodeling.”

The Kaye family has been helping other families spruce up their homes for the past 30 years. Working in the home remodeling industry for more than a quarter century, Ron has passed along his know-how and work ethic to his sons, who he jokingly says were born with a hammer in one hand and a screwdriver in the other.

“You will find the three of us working together on every project,” says Joe.

“Unlike bigger home improvement companies, where you never meet the owners, we oversee each job personally and work side by side. Working directly with the homeowner is a primary part of our business model. You will see one of us working on the job every day.”

Spicing up Kitchens
With in-house architect services and kitchen layout designers, Kaye Construction works with homeowners to add functionality to their kitchens and transform them into culinary masterpieces.

“We offer homeowners an affordable option for custom building using high-end cabinets and countertops,” says Joe. “We have years of experience building kitchens, so we can give homeowners suggestions on what would work best for their project.”

“We currently are installing lots of painted color cabinets in shades of white, light and dark gray and blue-gray for a more modern look. And granite countertops and subway backsplash tile are still popular because they are classic and won’t go out of style.”

Kaye Construction also can take down walls and move around the kitchen’s footprint to create an open concept and better flow.

Adding Living Space
“We help homeowners make their home more efficient, whether that be adding living space by finishing a basement or building an addition for a growing family that needs more space,” says Josh.

“No job is too big or too small,” he adds. “We have built a small, 100-square-foot bathroom addition on a limited lot size in Lakewood, added an expansive 2,800-square-foot, two-story addition in Columbia Station, and added a bedroom and bathroom on the first floor for an elderly couple in Berea, so they do not have to walk upstairs every day.”

Now that we have made the turn to warmer weather this month, homeowners are looking outside for extra living space as well.

In addition to room renovations, Kaye Construction also specializes in building decks and installing siding and windows.

“In the past couple of weeks, homeowners have been calling to get quotes on decks, and we are ready to start outdoor projects,” says Joe, noting they do wood, composite and stamped concrete decks and patios.

“Whether adding living space to a home’s interior or outdoor area, we help homeowners renovate their homes so they can stay in the neighborhood and school system they love,” he says.
