Nothing is as motivating to look your best as the prospect of walking down the aisle at your child’s wedding.

Back in April, with a scant four months until her oldest daughter’s nuptials, Margie Maloney of Avon Lake clicked through a Facebook ad for Fitness Together in Bay Village.

“At that point, I would not even go shopping for dresses with my three daughters,” she says. “I knew I wanted to lose weight first, but I was running out of time.”

Although she is quite active, playing competitive tennis and walking her dogs every day, 50-something Margie says that the weight crept up on her over the years, maybe an additional pound or two each year. Her busy job as a sixth-grade teacher did not allow much extra time to exercise. She decided to put herself in the hands of professionals.

“Within the first two months, I dropped more than 20 pounds and was looking and feeling the best I had in years, so I finally bought my dress for the wedding,” she says. “But then several weeks went by and when I tried it on—two days before the wedding—it was too loose, so my daughters and I went shopping together. I could not have been more thrilled to find an even more beautiful dress, several sizes down from where I had started in April.”

Not only did Margie lose weight, but she also sculpted her body by losing five percent body fat and gaining muscle.

Trainer Stephanie Gerrans reports there are several moves, such as a TRX plank variation, that Margie could barely do when she started in April. She’s crushing them now.

“I’ve also noticed a big improvement in my tennis game,” she adds. “I’m getting to the ball faster and hitting it harder.”

One-on-One Makes All the Difference
“Although I had attended exercise classes and worked out at gyms in addition to the tennis over the years, this is the first time I worked out one-on-one with a trainer, and that made all the difference,” says Margie.

“The level of exercise science these trainers tap into is impressive. After the initial consultation, in which we discussed my goals, each workout is different, and they are constantly reassessing my progress. I would never push myself as hard as they do. It’s enjoyable. I always look forward to coming here.”

At Fitness Together, the tools are as high-tech as the level of training. Within the private training suites, trainers and clients utilize the latest equipment, from cardio machines to TRX suspension bands, freestanding punching bags, medicine and stability balls and weights.

In addition to Stephanie, other trainers include Rachel Pekarski, who is also the manager, Nate Hoy and Brett Worden.

Margie’s desire to stick with training at the studio for the long term is pretty standard for most clients here. Owner Sean Sullivan says that even though his studios have a reputation for being elite, the reason they are so successful is because they offer a highly personalized experience that provides accountability and produces results that people cannot attain on their own.

The wedding may be long over, but Margie is still faithfully arriving at her thrice-weekly sessions at Fitness Together. And her transformation and enthusiasm has led her husband, daughters, sister and several friends to follow in her footsteps and become clients as well.
