Do you feel like getting away?

Pack a bag, roll down the windows, turn up the volume, and let the road take you to some highly recommended nearby destinations that will refresh your batteries. Oh, and you’d better pack some sneakers and a water bottle as you’ll be racking up some major steps on your fitness device.

The Three Rivers Arts Festival takes place in downtown Pittsburgh, Friday, June 1, to Sunday, June 10. A variety of performance art, visual art and hand crafted wares for sale by artisans from around the country are the major footprint of this wonderful urban event.

You may want to plan on staying overnight to include catching a free outdoor performance by the legendary Mavis Staples, hot Outlaw artist Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real, Valerie June, bluegrass icon Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, or The Mavericks on the main stage located at Point State Park, where the three rivers meet. Plan your journey by viewing the entire schedule of events at TrustArts.org.

Treading into enemy territory across the northern border will land you into one of the nation’s largest arts festivals. The Ann Arbor Art Fair will be held Thursday-Sunday, July 19-22. The summertime downtown streets of this area are transformed into an art lover’s paradise, with a mix of original works, street performers, culinary delights and local merchant sidewalk sales. It will take more than one full day to absorb all of the stimuli without getting brain sensory overload.

There will also be three stages of live music during the four-day event highlighted by singer/songwriter Kerry Lynn Roche. Hotel accommodations are hard to come by, so I recommend you get on it ASAP if you’re thinking about going. Visit TheAnnArborArtFair.com for a list of artists and a handy street map to keep you from getting lost.
