When you or a loved one are ready for assisted living, the options available are overwhelming. Before the decision on where to go is made, the most difficult question is often when to go. The right time for a person to leave his or her home is something families struggle with for emotional, practical and financial reasons.

The staff at Aberdeen Crossings Assisted Living in Highland Heights knows what you’re going through and they can help.

“There are many different factors involved when deciding on a move to assisted living,” says Community Director Jocelyn Zidar. “And every situation is different. We help you sort through it all and come to the best decision for you and your family.”

The most honest answer to the question about when it’s time for assisted living is, if you’re thinking about it, it’s time. Whether the move involves a single person or a married couple like Sam and Josephine B., the move to assisted living can be the answer when life at home becomes difficult to manage.

“It was hard to leave our home,” says Josephine. “But after Sam had a fall, we knew it was time. It was too much for me to take care of him, the house and everything that involved. We’re still in our familiar area of town and close to our children. And Sam’s sister, Rose, lives here, too. It’s wonderful that we’re all together.”

Many of the residents of Aberdeen Crossings are from the Highland Heights and surrounding areas. They appreciate remaining in the same familiar neighborhood and staying active in their community.

“We chose Aberdeen Crossings because it was perfect for my parents,” says Sam and Josephine’s daughter, Sharon.

“Mom and dad and my Aunt Rosie all wanted to be together. They have been close most of their lives and having them here is wonderful for them and our whole family.”

Residents from the area can be assured that their social calendars, healthcare professionals and interactions with their community will not change once they move to Aberdeen Crossings.

“One resident hosts her bridge club here and another hosts a prayer group,” says Jocelyn. “And the van is available to take residents to events and friends’ homes upon request.”

Jocelyn tells the story of a resident whose daughter posted on Facebook looking for recommendations for assisted living for her father.

“Six people responded recommending Aberdeen Crossings because they have parents here,” says Jocelyn. “It’s a true community.”

Along with that community feel is a safe place where resident care is the first priority.

“We have an aging-in-place philosophy where we hope to be able to care for all residents through end of life, in their own apartment homes if possible,” says Jocelyn. “For memory care residents, this continuity of care surrounded by familiar people is crucial.”

Aberdeen Crossings is a pet friendly facility and each apartment home has a kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator. The circular layout allows residents to easily find their way to the dining room, activities and back to their own apartment home.

“I take advantage of all the activities they offer here,” says Josephine.

“And I encourage everyone to do the same. Some things I like, others I don’t, but I try it all. The staff here is so good to us and it makes everything enjoyable.”
