Stewart’s TV & Appliance celebrates 73 years of outstanding service and sales

The Stewart family shares a special fondness for the community they grew up in. Patriarch Dick Stewart started the business—Stewart’s TV & Appliance—fixing radios in his parents’ basement on Marseilles Avenue in Elyria. Eventually he moved out of the basement to a new 30-by-30-foot building on Cleveland Street in 1950, adding televisions for sale and shortly after that came the appliances.
“We have been at this location ever since and our business kept growing as the community grew,” says Dick’s son, Ed. “At that time and for most of our 73 years, Elyria was the shopping destination for Lorain County. We believe in giving our customers that small-town feeling with a friendly smile and personal service. We get to know our customers by name, just as our dad did every day.”
Stewart’s carries most of the major appliance brands from basic models for the budget conscious to ultra-high-end for the discriminating consumer. Built-in and hard-to-find appliances are their specialty, and they still carry televisions as part of their heritage, as well as outdoor cooking appliances, too.
“Sales and service are important to us,” he continues. “Many on our team have been with us for over 30 years, which is true for some of our salesmen as well as appliance technicians. We know that’s part of the reason, besides the friendly faces, that our customers keep coming back to us. Also, our prices are competitive with the big box stores.”
Ed says their customers know when they shop at Stewart’s they are supporting both small business and the community.
And that’s a two-way street.
“We give back in many ways, too, from being in the local Rotary Club to giving to local churches and schools for fundraisers,” he says.
