While February and March teased a few spring-like days before the mirage faded from the horizon, the time for new beginnings has officially arrived. Sunday, March 20, marked the first day of spring, fulfilling the promise of warmer days beckoning you outside to enjoy in the company of friends and family.

There’s no better time than the present to get started on the dream of turning your backyard into an outdoor living oasis, with the help of a skilled contractor.

Across Northeast Ohio, Williams Landscaping & Pavers has created outdoor living spaces through custom patios and decks, pavilions and gazebos, and award-winning, dynamic landscape and lighting designs.

Regardless of the contractor you use to put you on a path to outdoor living, Williams Landscaping’s “Big & Bold Outdoor Living Project Guide” can get you there that much sooner. The free, easy-to-read primer is available at WilliamsLandscaping.org.

Still, you’ll want to act fast to make the most of the season. The spring and summer months for Williams Landscaping and other contractors book up quickly.

“People want to be outside, they want to enjoy their yards, have a nice sitting area with a functional kitchen—sinks, countertops, islands, the whole works,” says Brian. “Outdoor living creates an environment that leads to drinking a glass of wine in the evening hours.”

Architectural elements like pavilions frame space and provide shade. Other structural features like fire pits encourage conversation that can last into the night and extend into the cooler months.

An outdoor living space anchors the family at home, providing an inviting landing for friends. A functional kitchen makes it easy to host impromptu BBQs and BOP (Brick Oven Pizza) parties. Water features like a poolside waterfall or ornamental fountain can keep the world away as you drift after a hard day’s work.

“One of the first questions I always ask people is what they like to do outside,” says Brian. “We come out to people’s homes or meet via video conferencing, and sometimes people have only a vague idea of what they want. Others tell you what they want exactly, but it’s always a collaboration.”

Williams Landscaping never charges for consultations.

“I’ll collaborate with clients or potential clients for as long as they need to get the design they want from every angle,” says Brian. “For every design, there’s a color sketch, a topo drawing for a top-down perspective, and a 3D rendering. You don’t just want one design. That might work for some contractors, but we’re never satisfied with just one view.”

Rather than draw on a small sample, Williams Landscaping shows you a world of possibilities, so you can decide what works for you.

The ultimate purpose of outdoor living space is to inspire a state of mind.

“It should be your oasis,” says Brian. “The materials, the textures and the colors get you to that state of mind. Everything needs to work in harmony.”

“On older houses where the information from the builder isn’t there, my team will leave no stone unturned, and they’ll come back with samples until they get it exactly right,” says Brian.

An abundance of plants ties the architectural, structural and compositional elements together, bringing an outdoor living space to life.

“I like the Eastern redbud—the color is vibrant and interesting all year long,” says Brian. “I also like to use liriope or lilyturf for small accents. There needs to be something interesting to look at everywhere you turn.”

Year-round landscaping ensures that an outdoor living space doesn’t fade away with the changing seasons. It’s the same promise Williams Landscaping makes through its Total Care Program.

Williams Landscaping makes a five-year promise to monitor its work through its Total Care Program.

“It’s more than a warranty that guarantees everything will be good,” says Brian. “You’ll still hear from us to make sure things stay good. When we complete an outdoor living space or landscape, we make sure everything is good for five years. That’s what our Total Care Program means for you and us.”

Williams Landscaping can guarantee results that last and results that you’re happy with, results that make the most of the time you and your family and friends have outside, enjoying each other’s company.

Through the Total Care Program, Brian and his team stand by their commitment to making each client’s dream of a backyard oasis, blooming through the spring and summer, changing into fall, and settling into winter, a reality.
