It’s wintertime, and an exceptional time to experience The Echelon of Medina.

The unique independent senior living community caters to its members by combining the best of the hospitality and health fields.

“The Echelon rivals a five-star hotel,” says Jeff Risner, who owns and operates The Echelon with his wife, Jill Risner.

The Echelon, which opened last year in Medina, is not a typical senior living community. It boasts an abundance of amenities, and its members are making the most of the brisk winter months. They can go to nearby events in and around Medina chauffeured in a Rolls Royce or a spacious van.

“When the weather outside is frightful, you’ll find our members sitting by the cozy fireplace, socializing in our old-fashioned English pub, swimming in our heated indoor pool, or watching a movie in our relaxing theater,” says Debbie Garrett, The Echelon’s marketing director.

The Echelon features a therapy pool, in addition to a sauna and wellness gym.

The Echelon is warming up for its Winter Wonderland Open House at 1 p.m., on Thursday, January 23, so let it snow.

“It’s an opportunity to take a break from the cold and join us in our pub and have some dessert and a cup of cocoa or coffee,” says Debbie. “Our hot chocolate bar will be like a trip to the candy store. Anyone thinking of joining our vibrant community for themselves or their loved ones are welcome—it’ll be a lot of fun.”

At the Winter Wonderland Open House, Jeff and Jill will showcase the singular approach to senior living found only at The Echelon. For them, and the people who live there, life opens up through concierge service, chef-prepared meals and luxury amenities.

Residents enjoy an exercise program.

At the event, specialists from Transitional Design will be unpacking tips for downsizing. Not only can downsizing be liberating for seniors, but when they move to The Echelon, they’re free to experience its ample amenities. And there’s another upside, too. The 90-suite independent living community provides members with an unparalleled level of attention.

“We want our members to have a sense of belonging,” says Jeff. “When members move here, they’ll feel independent with assistance—even though some may not be independent physically, they remain independent emotionally.”

Independent living at The Echelon caters to those who are ready to leave behind the stress of homeownership and experience a relaxing, vibrant community. Their abundance of amenities available to members include personal concierge service, access to a therapy pool, sauna and wellness gym for private classes, private transportation in a luxurious Rolls Royce to events in and around Medina, an in-house theatre for movies, the big game and more.

The English-style pub is a great place for residents and friends to socialize.

It’s wintertime, and with snow and ice on the ground, seniors need to be particularly careful. On Thursday, January 30, physical therapist Nick Hinkle will discuss ways to avoid falls and will provide no-charge fall risk assessments. The Echelon will also host a Valentine’s Affair open house on Thursday, February 13 at the Independent Living facility for potential members to see what five-star living is all about.

“We actively listen to our members and respond to the ever-evolving needs of aging through comprehensive, person-centered care,” says Jeff.

“But, ultimately, we’re encouraging an emotional shift. The Echelon speaks to a greater need. Through an abundance of amenities and personalized services, our members experience a better quality of life.”
