Three small changes you can start today that will have dramatic benefits to your health over time

Even though getting healthier is a sincere priority, we all can’t seem to get there. The big reason we continue to regress is not only because we try to make too many positive lifestyle changes at once, but also because we are unaware of all the little bad habits that can creep in.

Here are three small behavior changes you can start today that will have dramatic benefits to your health over time:

1. Move every hour.
Even though we should all be exercising 30-60 minutes a few days a week, we should also avoid sitting for hours at a time. Research supports that simply not sitting for hours at a time can boost your metabolism and keep your body healthy and strong. Walk around, do some squats, climb a few flights of stairs and do some push-ups on the wall. Make a plan to move around for at least 10 minutes every hour.

2. Journal your food activity and exercise.
There are so many great apps out there to log food and physical activity. But I still prefer the tiny little notepad and pen that I keep on my kitchen counter. You can easily stop once or twice a day, think about what you’ve been eating, drinking and doing, and write it down. When people write it down, they make better food choices and exercise more.

3. Get more sleep.
Once again, we aren’t talking about anything drastic here. You are sleeping anyway, just try to get a little more each night. When your body is well rested, it’s primed and ready to thrive. Try turning off the TV and going to bed just a little sooner each night. That little bit of extra sleep can add up over time and have tremendous benefits.
