One of the best-known senior care communities in the Midwest is opening its 12th location this month on 15 lush, wooded acres in Independence. Vista Springs Ravinia offers a true resort-style experience with catered independent living, assisted living and memory care.

“We live up to our philosophy, ‘Full of life,’” says Sheila James, who is senior managing partner.

“Our five-diamond amenities, such as three spas, a theater, fitness center, bistro and state-of-the-art exhibition kitchen, encourage our members to engage in life to the fullest. And a 24/7 concierge and nursing staff lend peace of mind.”

In addition to a jam-packed monthly schedule of classes and events, Sheila says their members embark on group excursions to plays downtown, area wineries, the Rocksino, Stan Hywet Hall and historical re-enactments, just to name a few.

She explains that the communities were founded by Lou Andriotti, whose mother suffered from dementia.

“He was unhappy with any of the senior living facilities he toured and thought to himself, there’s got to be better choices out there,” she says. “So, he decided to reimagine the model with a five diamond, luxury and holistic approach to caring for seniors.”

This is Living
The 94 bright and spacious suites—including 24 suites in the Rediscovery Neighborhood for memory care—showcase elegant, award-winning interior designs with upscale architectural features in studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Each one offers a breathtaking view of the well-manicured grounds and enclosed courtyard, with a pergola and abundant raised flower beds, as well as conveniences such as loads of storage space and en suite laundry facilities and fireplaces.

“Our Rediscovery Neighborhood showcases special amenities to make life better for those with cognitive issues, such as motion sensors to prevent and detect falls, light strips to help maneuverability at night, and induction burners for safe cooking,” says Director of Business Development Beth Shotwell Bowman. “And for caregivers and families of dementia patients, each quarter we offer Virtual Dementia Tours, which are 20-minute experiences that simulate the feeling of living with dementia and monthly support groups.”

The facility is secure, without members having to wear any restrictive bracelets or pendants. And Beth reports they offer an app called Care Merge so families can connect with their mom or dad’s day, and see what they are doing.

“We care about our members’ health and wellness in a proactive manner, offering quarterly wellness assessments and chef-prepared food that’s made from scratch,” says Sheila.

“Our members also enjoy therapists for rehab, music therapy and equine therapy.”

Making Aging in Place a Priority
Vista Springs Ravinia offers a haven for seniors who seek the ease of aging in place, extending from vibrant, independent living to hospice care if needed.

“We cater services to meet how little or much help people want, including cleaning and laundry, as well as room service for meals,” says Sheila.

“And to make things easier for the families, there’s just one transparent, all-inclusive, month-to-month payment. There are no expensive buy-ins or contracts. Other places may initially seem lower, but once you move in, you discover all the add-ons they make you pay for.”

As the only senior care facility in Independence, Sheila says they look forward to becoming deeply entrenched in the community, partnering with other local players and inviting their neighbors to come to their events.
