Brown Barn Tavern
“We are an independent, family-owned restaurant that strives to be a welcome option in the community, showcasing our passion and commitment for great food and drink, while celebrating family and friends.” —Marco Stanton, co-owner
The rustic Brown Barn Tavern in Chardon offers a unique dining experience. Housed in a history barn, that was at one time a working cattle barn, the restaurant and bar span more than 5,000 square feet.
Diners enjoy a relaxed and cozy gastropub atmosphere.
Owned by two local families, the focus at Brown Barn is on authenticity, and that shines in the eclectic menu of classic, from-scratch American fare, which features comfort foods with loads of fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
The charming main floor seats about 200 people, the elevated patio seats about 20 and the loft seats 50 for formal dining and up to 65 for casual dining. People enjoy the breathtaking views of the verdant rolling hills of Alpine Valley. Dining underneath the soaring 30-foot rough-hewn, wood-beamed ceilings is a unique experience with a country-chic vibe. All of the tables are hand-crafted with live edges. No two are the same.
The bar is hands-down the best spot in the house to watch a game or kick back after a round of golf at one of the many nearby courses. It seats 25 and is skirted by large elevated television screens.
For spectacular events, the loft, which is the original hay loft, is an ideal venue. Tables are arranged under a canopy of Edison bulbs and the backdrop is sweeping views of the lush surrounding valley and the restaurant below.
Signature Dishes on the Menu
Several signature dishes have become best-sellers on the from-scratch menu, such as the Chicken Fried Chicken, which is marinated in buttermilk then flash-fried, served with red pepper velouté, roasted garlic mash, frizzled scallions and apple-jalapeno slaw; Tavern Steak Tips topped with garlic mushrooms, caramelized onions and a burgundy wine demi, served with roasted garlic mash and vegetables; and the Barn Bacon Burger, featuring a 7-ounce Angus beef patty topped with applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, sharp cheddar and maple-chipotle aioli on a toasted brioche bun. Also on the menu are sandwiches, fresh salads, seafood and a slew of hand-cut steaks. When it comes to vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free fare, they push the envelope and can make many dishes following these dietary styles.
Happy Hours and Brunch
The eatery has earned a reputation for value-forward happy hours and festive brunches.
The small plate menu for Happy Hour, which is every Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m., includes:
• Tavern Wings
• Barnyard Tenders
• Spinach and Artichoke Dip
• Barn Kettle Chips
• Barn Boy Jr.
• Crispy Barbecue Chicken Sliders
Served on Saturdays and Sundays, Brunch includes its own menu of specialties, from Chicken & Waffles to Huevos Rancheros. Don’t miss the Barn Bloody Mary, crafted with house-made infused vodka, or four flavors of Mimosas.
And the restaurant’s takeout and catering menus elevate traditional fare with creative spins, such as four varieties of meatballs: Swedish, Sweet Thai Chili, Pomo Parmesan and BBQ.
