In its pursuit to combine the best of both the health and hospitality fields, The Echelon of Medina has arrived. The assisted living and memory care community is welcoming new members now, while the independent senior living community is slated to welcome new members home in spring 2019.

As creators and curators of a unique approach to senior living, owner/ operators Jeff and Jill Risner have already begun greeting those who can see themselves or their loved ones living amidst an abundance of amenities at The Echelon, located mere minutes from historic downtown Medina.

Jeff and Jill have been busy guiding visitors through the 98-suite assisted living/secure memory care community and are looking forward to taking visitors on tours of the 100-suite independent living community as the finishing touches are put on.

“The Echelon is the first of its kind. It’s something you not only have to see but also experience,” says Jeff. “It’s the ultimate senior living experience—an ideal environment where our members feel not only safe and secure but also independent with assistance.”

The independent living community has seven different floor plans ranging from 510 square feet to 1,140 square feet, while the assisted living and memory care community has six different floor plans ranging from 447 square feet to 798 square feet. A wide variety of floor plans creates space for variable pricing options.

Housed separately, the two distinct parts of The Echelon create a sense of community and the possibility for continuity of care.

“The Echelon rivals a five-star hotel,” says Jeff.

“Life opens up through concierge service, chef-prepared meals, and luxury amenities. Whether members are out walking garden paths, relaxing in the old-fashioned English pub or the Himalayan salt room, or making use of any of the other the amenities offered here, they’re safe and secure. The Echelon was built to respond to members’ needs. As those needs change, some move from independent to assisted living with the same attention to care.”

A staffing ratio of one-to-eight, compared to the typical one-to-20 ratio found elsewhere, ensures members receive an unparalleled level of attention. The use of proprietary wearable technology adds another level of personal attention by monitoring members’ overall health and detecting falls and other emergencies that require rapid medical assistance.

“Most independent living facilities would not equip their facilities to the technological degree that we do of having, say, a nurse call system in place,” says Jeff. “But if something were to happen, we can respond and adapt quickly—before a member needs a higher level of care.”

The Echelon anticipates members’ needs through an advanced medical model. Nurses are present around the clock, and nurse practitioners and physicians make the rounds once a week. Members can choose the comfort of their suites or the Wellness Center for health monitoring by visiting podiatrists, dentists, optometrists, audiologists and other health professionals.

Food, too, is of vital importance. Meals are chef-prepared and can be made to order any time, day or night.

“Food is medicine,” says Jill.

“We do things differently, and eating is one of them. Food binds us together, across the table and out in the community—from farm to table. That’s why whenever possible we use locally-sourced ingredients. When you start with the highest quality, natural, organic ingredients, that’s when you feel you’re sitting down with family.”

At her side, her husband Jeff nods and sums up by adding, “The Echelon is catered living.”
