At Chesterland Family Eyecare, Dr. Bianca Kostranchuk goes above and beyond to make sure her patients are seeing clearly

To care for everyone from six-month-old babies to great-grandparents, the doctors and staff at Chesterland Family Eyecare have amassed all the latest screening and diagnostic equipment to prevent, detect and treat eye conditions, as well as offer fashion-forward prescription eyewear.
A Geauga County native, Dr. Bianca Kostranchuk took over the private practice several years ago because she wanted to be able to foster a caring community culture where patients are treated like family, not “like a number.” She says it was important to be able to make her own decisions on things such as which equipment to bring in and how long her appointments should last.
Growing up in the area, attending St. Anselm Elementary School, Notre Dame Academy and John Carroll University before earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from Ohio State University, Dr. Kostranchuk said coming back home to set up her practice and raise her family was a priority.
“Early Detection is Essential”
Along with associates Dr. Taylor Wrubel and Dr. Edwin Grant, and a staff of 15 technicians and administrative people, Dr. Kostranchuk explains that their primary goal is to ensure patients’ overall systemic health.
“Many conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be initially diagnosed in the eyes,” she says. “Early detection is essential. That’s why we use the Optomap Retinal Exam. We’re able to take an ultra-wide field image of the inside of the eye in a fraction of a second, without needing to dilate with drops. And we can save the images so we can compare from year to year.”
She says they are capable of treating almost every eye disease and condition—from dry eye to glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts, diabetic and pediatric eyecare—with all the latest available methods just shy of surgery.
When it comes to Lasik, they partner with affiliated surgeons in Cleveland, and patients can conveniently have their consultation and pretesting done before the procedure and follow-up appointments afterward at Chesterland Family Eyecare.
The Pandemic and Eye Health
Dr. Kostranchuk reports that since the pandemic hit, with people logging in more screen time than ever, they have been seeing a significant uptick in eye strain and fatigue.
“And with children streaming and spending more time on their screens, we’re seeing eye strain in younger patients, too,” she says. “As a parent, things of concern to look for would be frequent headaches or rubbing of the eyes or difficulty maintaining attention.”
Dry eye is another ailment exacerbated by the pandemic in that masks can cause you to blow air out the top of your mask and into your eyes.
Fabulous Eyewear Collections
Chesterland Family Eyecare showcases an impressive number of high-fashion lines in its prescription eyewear department, to appeal to every taste, and every budget.
Perusing the eclectic brands is like sitting in the front row at a runway show…Fendi, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs and Hugo Boss, just to name a few.
“We’re also thrilled to be the only place in the area to offer Feb31st, a sustainable, custom-made line,” says Dr. Kostranchuk. “People schedule their design session with us, choosing colors, face-flattering shapes and feature accents. Then the glasses are handcrafted in Italy, many styles are carved from exquisite wood, and shipped to us in four to six weeks.”
