Babies, kids, adolescents, adults…now everyone has access to the latest dental advancements

The most established pediatric dental practice and the newest general dentistry practice in town both have a lot in common—and it all starts with the Heffernan family.
Dr. Brittany Heffernan joined the staff at Brunswick KiDDS in 2015. This year her husband opened Advanced Dentistry by Dr. John Heffernan right next door. They met while attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where they both earned an undergraduate degree in zoology and then continued their education at The Ohio State University, where they both graduated with doctorates of dental surgery.
After getting married, the two took slightly different career paths but found their way back to Northeast Ohio. Dr. Brittany took the first step as she joined an established practice that specializes in pediatric dentistry. She quickly developed expertise in treating infants with tongue ties, children for all of their oral health needs, and adolescents for orthodontics. Meanwhile, Dr. John worked for several other general dentistry practices, honing his skills before opening his own business this year. In addition to general dentistry, he is well versed in implants, dentures, wisdom teeth extractions, periodontal care and orthodontics.
Located side by side in their own offices, Advanced Dentistry and Brunswick KiDDS share an orthodontics space as well as a patient-centric culture.
“It’s a dream come true for these two dentists. Ever since they graduated from dental school they wanted work together,” says Brunswick KiDDS founder Dr. Milton Ntragatakis. “Orthodontics is what links them together professionally because it is the common link between pediatric and adult dentistry.”
“We are positioned as a multi-specialty group where we can offer a continuum of care from pediatric dentistry to family dentistry and orthodontics,” says Dr. John. “The only difference is you will see Disney on TVs over there and hear ‘80s music and watch cooking shows over in this office.”
“Once children age out of our pediatric practice, they are already familiar with some of the staff and offices at Advanced Dentistry and can transition right next door and get the same superb care,” adds Dr. Milton. “This convenience combines pediatric and adult services in the same location, so once children grow up they don’t have to seek out a new dentist.”
Likewise, many parents of children being treated with Invisalign clear aligners are now opting for treatment themselves. “Once parents see how perfect their children’s teeth look, they feel like they, too, could benefit from straighter teeth and a better smile with orthodontics,” says Dr. John.
Both dental practices utilize the most advanced technology, including the iTero intraoral scanner, which digitally captures the image of each tooth and transmits it electronically for the fabrication of crowns, veneers, Invisalign braces and retainers, thus eliminating the need to bite down on a mouthful of that dreaded, gooey material.
Though this innovative technology, along with laser dentistry, helps the dentists provide the most advanced treatments, it is their caring demeanor that patients appreciate most.
“I have never met a couple so professional while at the same time bringing such a comforting demeanor and caring family atmosphere to work,” comments Dr. Milton. “The love they have for each other permeates to everything and everyone in the office, creating a wonderful work environment. And it is this kindhearted family atmosphere that patients love about both practices.”
