Improved performance is always the goal, whether you’re an athlete trying to reach the peak of your sport, a grandparent trying to stay active with the grandchildren or anyone in between. Beth Andrus, owner of the new Club Pilates in Willoughby, along with her husband, Fred Pompeani, is thrilled to offer this community the workout that changed her life.
“Fred and I were inspired to open this Club Pilates when the opportunity arose because of my personal experience with the workout,” says Beth. “After several injuries, Meniere’s disease and vertigo, I couldn’t run anymore. Pilates made me stronger, more flexible, strengthened my core and became my therapy.”
Beth says Pilates has been considered an exclusive, costly workout geared toward athletes. Club Pilates changed all that by making Pilates accessible to everyone, more affordable and, most importantly, shows people of all ages and abilities that Pilates can benefit them no matter what their goals may be.
“We all want to feel good and be able to function well in our daily lives,” says Beth. “The Club Pilates motto is ‘Do Pilates, Do Life.’ Peak performance means something different for everyone and Pilates is low impact, designed to make you stronger, more flexible, align your spine, and give you a better sense of well-being.”
Beth and Fred’s team at Club Pilates includes Amanda Hinton, general manager; Melissa Bogo, lead instructor; and Courtney Dawson, instructor. Everyone has experience in personal training, various fitness certifications and nutritional health backgrounds.
“I was a swimmer in college, a competitive bodybuilder, and have a background in nutrition,” says Amanda. “I also overcame cancer in the last year, and I know what it means to be clued in to your body enough to know when something is wrong. Pilates helps you develop that mind/body connection that’s so important to overall health.”
Classes include Traditional Levels 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0, Cardio Sculpt, Jump Board, Suspend Pilates and TRX, Barre Class and CP Fit, a functional interval training class.
“You’ll utilize your power house, the area from your shoulders to the pelvic girdle, and always be using your abs, but Pilates is easy on the joints,” says Melissa. “It will enhance your life as you gain the strength, flexibility and balance that are vital to a healthy life at any age.”
Slow, controlled breathing is a hallmark of a Pilates workout. You’ll learn to engage your core and breathe from your diaphragm while lengthening and aligning your spine at the same time.
“Classes are small, so you have more of a one-on-one experience that allows the instructor to correct your form and make sure you’re moving and breathing properly,” says Courtney. “Pilates is for every body. You can apply it to your other activities like golf, gardening and running. Everything is enhanced when you add Pilates to the mix.”
Adding Club Pilates to their plate was an easy decision for Beth and Fred, even with Beth’s career as a district sales manager with Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. (CSI) and Fred’s as a Partner with the law firm of Porter Wright Morris & Arthur.
“We’re looking forward to becoming part of the Willoughby community and making Club Pilates a part of your routine,” says Fred. “I love the adage, ‘to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail.’ Club Pilates will help you prepare to be better for everything, and everyone, in your life.”
