With most of us spending more time than ever cooped up at home, not surprisingly, the home renovation industry is going gangbusters. Never before have homeowners had so much opportunity to reflect on what’s happening in their home sweet homes.

“Last year, we had a high demand for projects across the board—as busy as we’ve ever been—and that doesn’t show any signs of stopping,” says Tschaun Procaccini, manager of Dover Floor & Tile Center. “If new flooring or a home renovation is on your wish list for 2021, I suggest you pull the trigger sooner rather than later, to get on our busy schedule.”

Wow...Just Wow
One of the many buzzy new introductions in tile that’s turning heads at Dover is Duo from a company out of Spain, aptly named Wow. Its edgy splashes of geometric shapes within six-by-six-inch square tiles are reminiscent of Picasso’s cubist period.

One of the top home spaces to renovate right now is the master bathroom.

“Each tile is unique, with either a slash of a different color, or the same color in both high-gloss and matte finishes,” he says. “People are really having fun with these, whether creating a ‘ribbon’ of tile in an entryway or bathroom, in eye-catching backsplashes or behind bars. Even a simple feature wall of the white-on-white tile can be striking.”

Reimagining a Fabulous Master Bath
One of the top home spaces to renovate right now is the master bathroom.

“People are looking for a spa-like environment to relax in,” says Tschaun.

“We created a Zen sanctuary with a high-tech relaxation space by layering four-by-12-inch glazed white tiles, sleek Evolution tile flooring with subtle veining for a stone look, custom cabinets and a state-of-the-art steam shower,” he says. “We retained a homey feeling with effects such as finishing the ceiling of the shower in a tile that mimics the look of hardwood and retaining the existing cherry wood crown molding for contrast.”

One of the more interesting organic elements in the design is the mosaic Emser Venetian tiles laid on the shower floor to look and feel like natural pebbles. A linear stainless steel Schluter shower drain adds the perfect flash of luxury to finish the look.

Of course, carpeting will never go out of style, and just off the master bath is a to-die-for master closet that features ultra-glamorous geometric patterned carpet— New Era, by Stanton Carpet.

“Even in understated grays and creams, a unique dimensional pattern can add an interesting curvaceous shape to any room” he says. “In addition to area rugs and carpeting, homeowners are asking us to create accents within the home using different shaped tile with honeycomb patterns and hexagon designs, as well as more intricate shapes within shapes.”

He says the designs can be as traditional or modern as you like, and blend seamlessly with any décor.

Like an HGTV Show
Tschaun has been in the flooring industry for 20 years and enjoys spending the time with clients during the design process to see a room come together.

“Sometimes I play devil’s advocate and try to get people to think outside their own original idea,” he says. “Our creativity in the showroom is like an HGTV show, with the end result even better than what the client dreamed of. ”
