Ending Bad-Assumptions
By Dr. David Gutman, Advanced Hemorrhoid Specialists
Hemorrhoids are sorely misunderstood. They’re not all bad. Let me explain.
You see, we all start out with three friendly internal hemorrhoids. When functioning properly, they help to prevent us from leaking stool when we cough or bend down to tie our shoes. When needed, they instantly inflate with blood to create a hydraulic seal inside. Pretty cool, right?
Until too much pressure stretches them out. Then they become considerably less friendly. Enlarged internal hemorrhoids don’t seal things up properly, making it difficult to wipe and stay clean. Excess wiping, irregular bowel movements, and other factors can then irritate them, leading to pain, itching, and bleeding.
But what about those hangy external skin tags you feel when you wipe? Surprisingly, those don’t cause any of the above symptoms. External hemorrhoids are just innocent bystanders, caused by the pressure from the internal hemorrhoids. Having externals means you’ve got internals, and if you’ve got symptoms it’s due to the internals, not the externals. Trust me.
Of course, some people may have other external problems unrelated to hemorrhoids, and sometimes internal hemorrhoids stretch out to the point that they actually protrude externally.
Bottom line? Don’t make bad-assumptions. Come in and find out what’s causing your problem.
I have two treatments designed to safely eliminate hemorrhoids. Both take just a few seconds to do and are administered right in my office. There is virtually no pain, no prep, and there are no major restrictions. Consultations are free of charge, and our procedures are covered by insurance.
