You never know when you will have your a-ha moment. For Kevin Wasie, it was the day he earned his highest real estate commission working at one of the area’s largest real estate brokerages. “I was representing homeowners in Richfield and sold their million-dollar home, assisted them in buying a new house, and then the buyers hired me to sell their house, so altogether I made $47,000 in commission in one day,” recalls Kevin. “It obviously was a really great day, as I celebrated by buying my wife a nice pair of boots and going out to dinner. But later, at dinner, it struck me that it was the easiest money I had made in my five-year career. The system felt backward, and it didn’t seem fair that someone with a nice home got penalized by paying a higher commission.”
“It is harder to sell a house valued at $100,000 that needs a lot of improvements than a million-dollar home that is beautifully decorated and shows impeccably,” he continues. “I thought there should be a better way of selling homes, and that is what spurred me to start my own real estate company, Exactly, in the spring of 2018.”
Kevin took the proceeds of those two huge sales and paid off his college loan, left his agency, and started his own company based on flat-rate fees.
