Exclusively from Window City Pros, Protech vinyl replacement windows keep you comfortable while saving you money
By Ken McEntee
This winter, American families paid 13 percent more to heat their homes than they paid last year, the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA) estimated. The average family’s cooling costs last summer increased 33 percent compared with 2021, NEADA said.
“Energy bills are skyrocketing,” summarizes Chad Howman, owner of Window City Pros.
But Chad also has some good news.
“Energy-efficient windows may save you as much as 40 percent on your monthly energy bills,” he says.
Energy efficiency is one of the big advantages offered by Window City Pros’ ProTech double-pane windows, Chad adds.
The numbers tell the story.
“When you look at Energy Star ratings, they include two numbers—solar heat gain coefficient and U-factor,” Chad explains. “Solar heat gain measures how much heat the window allows to come into your home. The U-factor measures how much heat the window allows to escape out of your home. The lower the numbers the better, and to be Energy Star-qualified, those numbers have to be no higher than 0.3/0.3.”
Window City Pros’ ProTech double-pane windows are rated at 0.2/0.2, Chad says.
“The only way other companies can get to those numbers is by adding a third pane of glass, which adds weight and cost,” Chad says. “By choosing Windows City Pros, you’re getting a triple-pane window at the price of double-pane. You’re getting better quality windows and it’s saving you more on your energy bill. It’s going to make your home more comfortable, and you get a lifetime transferable warranty.”
The key to ProTech’s stellar energy saving ratings is the window’s exclusive heat shield technology, Chad says.
“ProTech has 13 layers of low emissivity coatings that reflect ultraviolet rays,” he says. “Another window company may have that. Then we have a super spacer, which another company may offer. We have foam-filled frames, which another company may offer. We have R5 insulated glass, and maybe another company offers that. Other windows have some of these components, but nobody puts it all together in one window like we do. That’s what makes up our exclusive heat shield technology glass package.”
The heat shield technology is an advanced system developed at the esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It utilizes green building materials and an advanced insulating system of glazing the interior of dual-paned windows with tiny metal particles that reflect UV light while allowing visible light to pass through the window. The chamber between windowpanes is filled with argon gas to create the heat shield.
“The technology is used in all zero- emission buildings in the world but it was only available in windows for commercial properties,” Chad says. “I reached out to the manufacturer and asked whether they could put the same glass into a vinyl window for houses. They said, ‘absolutely.’ I went to visit them and picked out the locks and latches and other design features and we created an exclusive residential product that nobody else is offering.”
Window City Pros’ Pro Tech windows are custom-built to precise measurements, which ensures a tight, perfect fit, Chad promises.
