Gone are the days of hiding your light
By Patricia Nugent
Like the old Sinatra song says, “When you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you.”
The husband-and-wife team of Drs. Christopher and Jessica Sinick believe this wholeheartedly. They opened Sinick Family Dental in Medina seven years ago to ensure beautiful and healthy smiles through advanced dentistry and compassionate care.
“The Smile Makeover is really one of our favorite services,” she says. “People whose teeth are discolored, misshapen, misaligned or missing might not have the confidence to show their smile, which is unfortunate. The patients whose smiles we’ve transformed have told us it’s been life-changing. They greet the world differently. One recent person even told us he got a promotion at his job after the smile makeover.”
They’ve perfected smiles for people of all ages who may have lost teeth to decay, periodontal disease or genetics.
“Oftentimes with before-and-after photos, the focus is on just the smile,” he says. “But with this story, we wanted to show the transformation of our patients’ whole faces, which is profound. They have a new outlook on life, and it shows. You can see the joy on their face.”
A Vision of What Could Be
The consultation begins with imaging. A patient is shown photos of where their smile is currently, and then a smile mockup, a projection of what it could look like with a treatment plan that may include whitening, dental implants, porcelain crowns and veneers, full or partial dentures and/or clear aligner braces.
“We collaborate with each patient to come up with a care plan,” he says.
For folks with darkly discolored teeth, the Sinicks researched the industry and discovered the KoR Whitening System, out of California.
“The dual-activated formula in this gel is truly next-level,” she says. “We are able to whiten teeth up to eight shades lighter, via both in-office and at-home treatments. It even works beautifully on teeth that have been stained from a person who took the antibiotic tetracycline, which can turn teeth gray. In the past, we had to place veneer overlays over these teeth, and now we are able to whiten them.”
In severe cases, when all the teeth are compromised and need to be removed, the good news is the Sinicks are able to anchor dentures to the jaw with several strategically placed dental implants.
“This method creates dentures that act like natural teeth,” he says. “There’s no slipping, so people can chew and speak normally.”
Beyond the esthetics of perfect-looking teeth, the dentists explain that missing teeth can lead to more tooth loss.
“A missing tooth puts more force on the remaining teeth, causing increased wear and tear, and/or fractures,” she says. “It can also cause arthritis and joint pain.”
Wondering how far you can take your smile? The Sinicks offer free imaging to show you what your own dazzling Smile Makeover could look like.
In addition to cosmetic and restorative procedures, the practice also offers root canal therapy, tooth extractions, same-day crowns, bone grafting, TMJ care, and puts an emphasis on preventive dentistry through educational routine cleanings.
Where Comfort Meets Convenience
Whichever treatment plan the dentist and patient decide to follow, they take extra steps to make the experience comfortable and hassle-free.
“Since we don’t have to send things out—the state-of-the-art lab is within our practice—our patients don’t have to wait for things like CEREC crowns we can do in a day, and implants,” he says. “The care is streamlined. Our patients don’t have to go anywhere but here.”
Patients also appreciate the homey feeling within the welcoming, farmhouse-style building at the corner of Route 18 and River Styx Road.
The space features an expansive waiting room with welcoming fireplace and relaxed furnishings. It’s not what you’d expect from a dental office. And that’s just how they planned it.
Leading the Way in Community Support
For Drs. Christopher and Jessica Sinick, heavily involving themselves in the community has always come naturally.
Despite the fact that they are quite busy with their three beautiful children, Chase, Vivian and Evelyn, they always make time to pitch in and lend a hand to local charities and schools.
“For us, the act of showing up is everything,” says Dr. Jessica. One of her favorite initiatives is mentoring students through a nonprofit called Kidz Connected.
“The idea is to provide a stable and supportive relationship with a child in need, whether that means doing homework together or playing outside.”
The couple also sponsors after-prom programs at Medina High School, the local 4-H program, and is active in the Heartland Community Church. Within their field, the doctors are members of the Medina County Dental Society, where Dr. Christopher is vice president.
