Here’s how Impact Home Remodeling transformed this Sharon Township walk-out basement into a show-stopping addition

Sharon Township homeowner Diane jokes that when her three kids come home from college, they will never want to leave the basement.
And it’s not because they are basement dwellers aimlessly hanging out downstairs all day, but rather because their basement is first-floor worthy.
With a new family room, kitchen, bedroom, two bathrooms, office, workout room and laundry room all downstairs, who wouldn’t want to be a basement dweller?
But this is no ordinary basement. Thanks to Impact Home Remodeling, which transformed an unfinished basement into a showstopper, this new living space is worthy of a magazine layout.
“I wanted everything to be light and airy,” says Diane, who, along with her husband, Jim, built this house nine years ago. “Working with Impact, they guided us along the way and helped us design the floor plan and construct this space.”
To brighten up the basement, white was the color choice for cabinets, moldings and walls, which were punctuated by some pops of color in navy and gold. A diagonal wood design on an accent wall painted white lends texture to the living room and makes a design statement. Similarly, natural-colored wood slats on the wall of the bathroom add some interest and warmth. Though the walkout basement allows natural light to stream in, the lighting was well planned, with a mix of recessed lights, flush-mount lights, pendants and chandeliers interspersed throughout.
“In total, we added 2,000 square feet of livable space downstairs,” says Joe Chiera, who owns Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling with his wife, Kristen. “It is an open concept design that flows into different spaces, making it perfect for entertaining.”
Today, basements are really multipurpose rooms. So whether you want to add a family hang-out space, home gym, movie room, kid’s playroom, bar and game room, your basement affords one of the easiest ways to add space.
“We are looking forward to all of the holidays when the kids and our grandchild come home, as we have so much more usable space now,” comments Diane. “Plus, as empty nesters we were also planning for the future. Remodeling the basement will greatly improve our home’s resale value.”
According to Kristen, many of the design elements they incorporate into every remodeling project, such as curbless showers in the bathroom, help homeowners age in place.
“We start every remodeling job by looking at the space and determining what the homeowners want to achieve with a remodel,” says Kristen. “Then we do a computer rendering as well as sketch it out on graph paper the old-fashioned way. After we have a final design, I go hunt for the materials myself or can meet the customer at the showroom.”
“Impact provided us with design inspiration and the owners communicated with us during the whole project and the tradesmen were respectful,” comments Diane. “Not only are they skilled remodelers, but they are all just good people.”
In addition to basement remodels, Impact specializes in kitchens and master bathrooms. And in just a few months, the company will start booking outdoor landscaping jobs and hardscapes for the yard.
“Our company is unique in that we do both landscaping and home remodeling,” says Joe. “This allows us to handle all of the homeowner’s needs by seamlessly blending indoor-outdoor living spaces—from designing backyard kitchens that look like they belong indoors complete with granite countertops and refrigerators to remodeling home interiors by taking down walls to create an open concept design with views of the yard.
“Our goal is to make your home beautiful inside and out.”
