Here’s how Skin Care Solutions Elite MediSpa can help to uncover the best of you
By Laura Briedis
Every year when the calendar flips to January, it signifies that a new year has begun—and that it may be time for a new you. In 2021, this has never been truer, as everyone needs to recharge and rejuvenate since last year wreaked havoc on us all.
At Skin Care Solutions Elite MediSpa, there are a number of ways to enhance your well-being and focus on self-care.
“Everyone has been a little stressed and depressed in 2020, so now is the time to refocus on self-care so you feel good and look good,” says Brittany Ballachino, a licensed medical aesthetician at SCS Elite MediSpa in Medina.
When you walk into Skin Care Solutions—with crystal chandeliers, elegantly upholstered couches, and bold artwork—you get the sense that you are going to be pampered. Though it may feel more spa-like than a medical clinic, the focus here is on getting results. As a medical spa, the physicians and aestheticians provide more advanced skincare treatments and use medical-grade products that you can’t get at a spa.
Opened in 2016 on the second floor above VCS Salon & Spa, just a couple blocks south of the Medina Square, this is SCS Elite MediSpa’s third location, joining offices in Wooster and Green.
Gentle Touch, Natural Results
As skilled master injectors, Dr. Dana Bonezzi, Dr. Debra Fast and Dr. Kathleen Fearon offer an arsenal of techniques to replace loss of volume in the face or lips.
More than just getting rid of the “elevens” between your eyes and “parentheses” around your mouth, there is an art to using neurotoxins and dermal fillers. At SCS Elite MediSpa, the medical professionals combine female artistry and advanced techniques for the best results.
“We take time to get to know everybody as an individual and customize their treatment plan so they are happy with their results,” says Dr. Fearon.
One of the most popular services is the Liquid Facelift, in which fillers and Botox are combined for natural facial rejuvenation. Fillers are injected along the cheekbone to lift the jowl area. Unlike an overly tight look like you see with some surgical facelifts, this 30-minute procedure results in a very natural appearance.
Another innovative service at Skin Care Solutions is an IPL Photofacial, which reverses sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and improves other skin conditions including acne scarring.
“The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser gently lightens sun spots, smooths blotchy skin and helps tighten skin, improving tone and texture,” says Kelly Roberts, a certified nurse practitioner who works in all three SCS Elite MediSpa offices. “With the laser, I can see instant results while I am doing the treatment because it darkens the dark spots and lightens or completely diminishes the redness instantly. Within a week the spots slough off, so I can see how clear the skin will look.”
“With this noninvasive procedure there is no downtime. You can put makeup on after the laser treatment and go right back to work,” adds Kelly.
“My goal is to achieve natural-looking results that make people look refreshed,” she says. “And by doing so they will feel younger and more vibrant.”
The MediSpa also offers laser hair removal.
“Now is the perfect time to get rid of that unwanted hair before summer,” comments Kelly. “Those with black and dark brown hair will see results after just three treatments of laser hair removal. Unfortunately, the laser will not see blonde, gray or white hair.”
Advanced Facials
SCS Elite MediSpa offers more physician-directed cosmetic services, such as advanced facials, chemical peels and exfoliating treatments like microdermabrasion and dermaplaning.
Working alongside the three doctors and nurse practitioner, Brittany consults with each patient to discuss treatment plans and to provide options. A licensed medical aesthetician with 15 years of experience, she worked at the Cleveland Clinic providing medical aesthetics in pre-op, post-op and wound care before joining the MediSpa.
“The doctors and aestheticians at our MediSpa work together to come up with the best approach to give our clients their desired results,” says Brittany, who graduated from Medina High School and Brown Aveda Institute, and is now working in her hometown. The MediSpa offers medical-grade facials that are more corrective. These facials penetrate into the lower levels of your skin to actually change the cellular structure and get real results.
“I customize every facial treatment for clients depending on their desired outcome,” says Brittany. “Everyone’s skin issues have changed this past year because the world has changed. Added stress affects our skin, as does wearing masks.”
“I have clients in their teens to those well into their 90s, so everyone has different needs,” she adds. “Sometimes the treatments are preventative and other times restorative. Plus, I also have many male clients with their own set of skincare needs.”
Body Sculpting
In addition to facial rejuvenation, SCS Elite MediSpa offers body sculpting. In a dedicated CoolSculpting treatment room, the aesthetician freezes the fat in targeted areas, including the inner and outer thigh, flanks, back, abdomen, upper arms, knees and chin.
“Body sculpting is an art,” says Brittany. “I use the modalities of the different applicators and freeze the fat cells to contour the body. Each treatment is customized in a creative way, so we really are sculpting the body.”
Whether your area of concern is extra fat on your thighs or a double chin, CoolSculpting targets specific areas of the body. Once the fat cells are frozen, they are gone for good, resulting in permanent fat reduction.
According to Brittany, you will see results within a month as the fat cells continue to metabolize out of the body for three months.
Medical-Grade Skincare Products
To complement its skincare treatments, the MediSpa sells physician-grade skincare products. Featuring two lines—Image Skincare and Obagi—these physician-dispensed, prescription-strength skincare products help transform skin at the cellular level for younger, healthier looking skin.
“I’m an ingredient nerd, so I enjoy educating my clients on different skincare products and how they work,” says Brittany. “I recommend always using an antioxidant product in the morning and a rejuvenating product in the evening.”
“Everything we do here at our medical spa is to help our patients look and feel their best,” she says. “We invite you to come in for a free consultation to see how we can best help rejuvenate your skin.”
Peeling Back the Years
The newest and most advanced facial peel at Skin Care Solutions Elite MediSpa, the Perfect Derma Peel offers optimal results with minimal downtime.
Ranked as one of the top three new anti-aging products by ABC News, this peel uses glutathione, an antioxidant with powerful skin lightening and anti-aging benefits, as well as other acids and vitamin C. It works by removing the outer, dead layers of skin in order to allow new, healthier skin cells to grow and flourish.
According to Brittany Ballachino, a licensed medical aesthetician in the Medina office, she has been seeing amazing results treating acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and clients who just want to improve the overall skin texture and appearance.
And the best part? It is a quick treatment that takes only 30-minutes and is suitable for all skin types and ethnicities.
Microneedling and Exosomes
If you’ve been searching for a non-invasive way to rejuvenate your skin, look no further than your own collagen. The most abundant protein in your body, collagen provides structure to your skin and acts as an adhesive to hold your body together. As you age, however, collagen production slows down and your skin becomes thinner and less firm.
To help you stimulate more collagen production, SCS Elite MediSpa offers microneedling, which is a non-surgical procedure that uses your body’s own wound healing process to encourage cellular turnover and collagen production by creating “micro-injuries” to the skin.
“The ultra-fine needles create tiny holes in the skin, which stimulate new collagen production and tighten the skin,” explains Kelly Roberts, a certified nurse practitioner at SCS Elite MediSpa. “Microneedling is ideal for those who want to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, as well as minimize pore size, brown spots and acne scarring.”
The procedure takes about an hour and there is no downtime, only a little redness that subsides in a couple of days.
“I apply a numbing medication to the area that is being treated, cleanse the skin, apply either a growth factor or exosomes to the area, and then move a pen-like device over the client’s skin, puncturing the dermis,” Kelly explains. “As the skin is punctured, the growth factor or exosomes penetrate into the dermis.”
The MediSpa just added exosomes to its menu in the fall as an add-on option. “The exosomes that we use are of optimal purity and are isolated mesenchymal stem cells,” says Kelly. “They contain a multitude of growth factors that improve the appearance and texture of the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production. They repair, regenerate and rejuvenate the area being treated by reducing the inflammation and jump starting the body’s natural healing process.”
After microneedling, clients will notice some immediate improvements, with full results in six to eight months.
