While the gazillion-dollar fitness industry grows each year, not a lot of attention has been put on the role the musculoskeletal system and bone health has on a person’s overall well-being. Until now.

The OsteoStrong studio in Willoughby offers patented Robotic Musculoskeletal Strengthening equipment called Spectrum, aimed at building and strengthening the musculoskeletal system, reversing bone loss and improving balance and joint pain. Clients come in once a week for a 15-minute session. There is no sweat, no pain and there are no medications.

The best-kept secret that has been transforming lives locally for years is about to be out of the bag.

In self-help guru Tony Robbins’ new book Life Force, he credits OsteoStrong as one of his best strategies for longevity and exceptional health.

“We’ve always known that Tony has our full line of equipment in each of his three homes, and that he invested in our company after he discovered how effective our workouts are,” says studio owner Bill Atterbury, “but it was nice validation to read about us in Chapter 14 of the book. This amazing read brings together 100 of the world’s top medical minds and the latest research on advancements in precision medicine to help people extend the length and quality of their lives. That’s great company to be in.”

May is Osteoporosis Awareness Month
Osteoporosis and osteopenia are common conditions in which a person’s bone mineral density becomes dangerously low.

“Our equipment actually reverses these conditions by spurring the body to grow bone and muscle tissue,” says Bill. “The high-load equipment puts push-pull forces on the body and makes it adapt to the change. Each workout only takes 15 minutes and people only need to do it once a week, as the body requires three to four days to rebuild at the cellular level.”

Each session begins with the client stepping on a vibration therapy plate to prepare the body for the next session. Then he or she goes through four specialized sessions on the Spectrum machines, then back to the vibe plate. A few minutes on the HydroMassage table provides an ultra-soothing finish to a session.

Meet Mike and Sherry McCoy
In addition to osteoporosis, OsteoStrong can be beneficial for those who suffer from arthritis or have undergone joint replacement surgery.

Mike and Sherry McCoy are no strangers to joint pain. They joined the studio in 2016, a year after Mike had hip replacement surgery.

“I’ve noticed stronger legs since starting here and my limp has gotten a lot better,” says Mike, who is 69 and enjoys hanging out with their three grandchildren. “I felt progress from the get-go. It doesn’t feel like a strenuous exercise while you are doing it, but you feel the benefits. My favorite part of the session is the warm water massage bed.”

Sherry has had both knees replaced and a shoulder, which was shattered when she fell while one of her knees gave out.

“We both look forward to lots of active years ahead,” she says.

Manager Tim Thompson reports that since they’ve been coming to OsteoStrong, Mike has improved his bone density and muscular strength by 49%, and Sherry by 32%.
