How do I rock my kitchen?
By Ken McEntee
Installing natural stone counters may be the best way to rock your kitchen, advises Scott Powers, sales manager of Kiba Studios, Medina’s kitchen and bath showroom. Below, Scott explains why.
Q: Why are stone countertops so popular today?
A: Granite, quartz, marble and other stone materials not only beautify your kitchen and baths, but they also are rugged and long-lasting.
Q: Aren’t they expensive compared to a budget material like Formica?
A: Many people are surprised by how affordable spectacular stone countertops are compared to other options. In a kitchen project you might be talking about a difference of $1,000 between Formica and an entry level granite, depending on your square footage—and the stone product may increase the value of your home by many times that difference. Stone is a solid investment.
Q: How do I choose between granite and quartz?
A: About 95% of what we’re selling today is quartz, which is an engineered product that offers the look of stone, but with customized designs. Unlike quartz, which has a more solid surface, it’s recommended that granite countertops be resealed once a year.
Q: Are stone countertops appropriate for bathrooms?
A: Absolutely. People are using stone in all parts of their homes, including bathroom vanities and shower benches. There are many ways to use stone in bathrooms and kitchens to bring everything together.
