Maximize the time you spend working out with the results-driven formula at The Exercise Coach
By Mary Malik
Give The Exercise Coach 20 minutes, twice a week for the next three months and you will see results.
Owner Paul VanderEyk opened The Exercise Coach in Avon in early January. The Exercise Coach offers targeted strength training using its proprietary, high-tech, computerized machines. No more dumbbells and treadmills. The Exerbotics® equipment, together with your one-on-one coach, provides an efficient, 20-minute training session in a small, intimate setting.
“People ask who The Exercise Coach is for, and the honest answer is anyone who wants to gain strength, increase mobility and improve their quality of life within a relatively short investment of time,” says Paul. “Most of our clients are age 40 and over, with many in their 70s and 80s, who want to stay strong and mobile or gain strength to be better at everything they want to do in life.”
Your experience at The Exercise Coach begins with a conversation with a coach during which you’ll discuss your goals, limitations, health issues and other activities you’re involved in.
“Your coach has the ability, through the Exerbotics® technology, to consider your limitations and machines are set to your personal specifications,” explains Paul. “We then place you on a machine to see what you can do.”
Paul says that every workout at The Exercise Coach is recorded, and notes are taken for future sessions. Your progress is continuously monitored, and adjustments are made to keep you progressing.
“The machines adjust your workout to your strengths and weaknesses in real time,” says Paul. “You follow your progress on the screen right in front of you on every piece of equipment. You see exactly how hard you’re working. This way, you get the most out of each 20-minute session.”
There’s no guessing at The Exercise Coach. That’s how injuries occur. Have you ever overdone it and hurt yourself with weights or improperly used a machine and had to take months off to recover? At The Exercise Coach, your coach is right there with you, guiding your progress.
“The machines adjust automatically making each exercise harder as you get stronger,” says Paul. “You will never plateau because you will never be stronger than the machine.”
Another benefit of The Exercise Coach sessions is that you can do them on your lunch hour in your work clothes if that’s most convenient.
“We just recommend that you be comfortable and don’t wear something that inhibits your mobility,” says Paul. “You won’t leave all sweaty, but you’ll know you’ve worked hard. It’s more of a muscular fatigue.”
Each session typically includes eight or more exercises on the machines that individually work the abdominals and back, chest, shoulders and legs. You’ll finish with a minute or two of cardio and you’re out the door.
“It’s enough cardio to get your heart rate up,” says Paul. “No more running on the treadmill for hours. It’s simply not necessary, and any benefits stop as soon as you stop. Here, your muscles continue to work for hours, even days, after you leave.”
Paul’s IT background drew him to the technology aspect of The Exercise Coach, and he and his wife Amy have always been interested in fitness.
“I was leaving my IT career and looking for something where I could have a positive impact on people’s quality of life,” says Paul. “The Exercise Coach focuses on fitness as you age, something of great interest to Amy and me. The technology is something unique in this industry and makes fitness doable from a convenience and efficiency perspective.”
Semi-private sessions are available with no more than four people for a reduced price. All workouts are by appointment only and your first two sessions are free.
“Plan on your first session lasting about an hour,” says Paul. “We’ll get to know you, your goals and determine your fitness level. Your second session may last about 40 minutes so we can tweak any settings and make sure you’re on the right track. After that, you’re in and out in 20 minutes.”
The Exercise Coach works with some insurance plans including Medicare. Monthly rates, semi-private sessions and session packages are offered at a discount.
“Clients love everything about The Exercise Coach, but especially their results,” says Paul. “They’re happy to be done with hours spent at a traditional gym with little or no results and even injuries. And they’re especially happy to be losing weight, gaining strength and mobility, and getting toned in a personal and efficient way. Just imagine what you’ll do with all your extra time.”
