Meet the Artist: Lisa Dressig
By Kelli Comer
Some people specialize in one specific category of art, while others like to dabble and try their hand at many different mediums. Local artist and art educator Lisa Dressig’s passion for art translates into a desire for teaching local residents how to create their own works of art using a multitude of mediums.
“My passion is for teaching art, encouraging creativity and thinking outside of the box,” Lisa says. “I absolutely love seeing my students’ eyes light up when they discover they can be successful creating their own art.”
Lisa has experience teaching preschool, grades K-6 and 9-12, adults and working with special needs students. She was a department chair, K-12 visual arts coordinator and has been involved in many philanthropic causes with leadership groups.
Lisa dabbles in nearly all mediums, but has an affinity for ceramics, mixed media and exploration of the self through the arts. She loves to create pieces that speak to her, whether that voice comes to fruition via clay, mixed media, paint or other medium. “I gravitate towards faces, the female figure, and nature as a statement of power, peace, love and nurturing,” she explains.
While Lisa rarely sells her work, she instead tends to gift pieces to people whom she feels deserve them, such as loved ones who have overcome struggles and may need a little reminder that they are strong, capable and laudable.
Lisa graduated from Kent State University in 1984. A former art educator at Nordonia City Schools for over 30 years, she is a certified Zentangle teacher and instructor at Peninsula Art Academy. Lisa currently teaches private lessons and works at Trashed Studio in Northfield, in addition to offering classes at Peninsula Art Academy.
Lisa has a very active class schedule as an instructor at Peninsula Art Academy. Her class offerings include:

The people, atmosphere and being in Peninsula feels comfortable and welcoming. I am happy to be a part of something so very special.”
