Modern Vitality Medical Spa helps you achieve a toned body and natural-looking youth

With the caring demeanor of nurses, the unconditional devotion of mothers, and the passion of entrepreneurs, Julia LaRocca and Amanda Mahon are helping others boost their well-being.
“We are mommas by nature and healers by profession,” says Julia, who, along with Amanda, owns Modern Vitality Medical Spa. “Our goal is to enhance patients’ natural beauty and boost their self esteem.”
“We provide a modern approach to feeling good about yourself,” says Amanda.
The duo met the first day in graduate school at the University of Akron and have followed the same career path. Amanda worked as an ER nurse and Julia worked as a urology nurse. Both were nurse practitioners in internal medicine before they decided to launch their own business and focus on aesthetics and wellness.
Opened in 2019, the medi-spa has grown to 10 employees, including another nurse practitioner, four registered nurses, a cosmetologist, a marketing professional and a front desk manager.
When you walk into the Modern Vitality offices, you feel like you are going to be pampered. It is the perfect balance. A little bling—with a green velvet couch and company name lit above it in the reception area—countered with a clean, medical feel in the five treatment rooms.
“We have created a boutique atmosphere where both men and women feel comfortable,” says Amanda. “We get to know our clients and connect with them on a more personal level.”
With an emphasis on modern technology, each room is dedicated to different services, from body sculpting to urinary incontinence treatments, to facials and injectables, to hair restoration and eyebrow microblading.
One of the most innovative services is Emsculpt Neo, which is a noninvasive body shaping procedure that provides simultaneous fat reduction and muscle building, all in a 30-minute session.
“It helps with core strength, improves posture and reduces fat,” says Julia. “The machine-induced muscle contractions do the equivalent of 12 to 16 weeks of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts in just four sessions that are spaced one week apart.”
Emsculpt has two modalities: electromagnetic energies, which simulate 20,000 muscle contractions in 30 minutes to increase muscle mass; and radiofrequency, which heats up fat cells to a point of apoptosis to burn fat. The applicator is placed on the area you want treated, whether the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, calves and arms, while you lie down and relax.
“Patients, on average, have 30 percent fat reduction and 25 percent muscle growth,” states Amanda, noting she treated her mom who has multiple sclerosis and now has more strength and increased function.
As a medical spa, Modern Vitality also offers advanced facials, including IPL Photofacials, HydraFacials, peels and microneedling. Plus, the nurses are well versed in cosmetic injectables, including Botox, Dysport and Sculptra.
“We take a conservative approach in our treatments as we do as little as possible to get the desired results. You can always come back for more,” notes Amanda. “And we are always honest. Not everyone is a good candidate for injectables so we consult with each client.”
In addition to aesthetics services, Modern Vitality also has a treatment room with an Emsella chair to address urinary incontinence. This noninvasive treatment uses electromagnetic energy to engage the pelvic floor muscles and causes them to contract rapidly.
“We enjoy taking care of our clients who are invested in their own health care and want to help themselves,” says Julia. “Our goals always align with theirs.”
