P.K. Wadsworth Heating & Cooling says now is the time to consider an upgrade—before the flakes fly
By Bryce Lonsway, Comfort Consultant; P.K. Wadsworth Heating & Cooling
The leaves are falling, and winter will be here before we know it. Now is the time to make sure your HVAC system is ready to go and efficient. It is always best to try and schedule your HVAC service or replacement ahead of time, so that you are not caught off guard with a broken-down system.
When temperatures drop, heating systems begin to work much harder and components within the system fail, especially on older setups. Some homeowners experience minor problems, such as air filters, drain lines or worn connections. However, due to the extreme temperatures, winter is a common time for major components to fail, like evaporator coils, thermostats, compressors, capacitors, heat exchangers, inducer motors or blower motors.
Scrambling to replace a failed system in the middle of winter or summer is not an ideal situation, as most contractors are busiest during these peak seasons. Because of this, there may be a delay in getting service. During mild weather, business typically slows down and contractors are often more readily available. Manufacturers also offer compelling incentives and promotions during the slower months to move their products, which could save consumers thousands of dollars.
Getting your HVAC serviced now while the temperatures are still mild, rather than waiting for it to fail when the cold weather hits, is usually more convenient. A replacement in the middle of winter means you may have to go without heat for a longer period of time. An off-season upgrade will likely have a faster turnaround without the discomfort of freezing temperatures.
Throughout my years of experience, I’ve found that most people do not feel it’s a big deal to go without heat for a few days in October, but nobody wants to go without a heat source in the dead of the winter.
My favorite part of my job is showing customers why fall is one of the best times to consider upgrading their HVAC system, and how I can save them time, money and hassle.
