Packed with curated items designed to make your world a better place, 1811 Specialty Shop is brimming with style

The newest store to open in Brecksville, 1811 Specialty Shop has so much to explore. From home décor to bath and apothecary collections, kitchen table settings and custom gift sets, there’s something for everyone to love.

The emphasis here is on novel, thoughtfully curated and inspiring pieces.

“Our mission is to pause and celebrate all the beauty that’s around us,” says store owner Amanda Kaye. “At 1811, we curate items for the shop both locally and globally. We seek items that help to make the world a better place and our homes healthier spaces.”

From hand-poured soy candles that burn clean (which sold out in the first month), to a Mexican citrus press, to an ornate 100-year-old fireplace facade, there is always something new in the store.

The third generation of her family to live in Brecksville, Amanda named the store after the year the city was founded as a way to honor her deep roots here. A graduate of Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, she went on to earn a marketing and journalism degree from Kent State University and an MBA from The Ohio State University.

While traveling, Amanda would enjoy finding unique items in boutiques and wanted to bring that same experience back to her hometown.

“My inspiration for the store was the small shops and cafés in Florence, Italy,” she says. “There was so much to discover walking around those cobblestone streets.”

You will find her favorite Muraglia olive oil and pottery from Italy in the store, as well as gourmet honey and merchandise from Savannah Bee Company that she discovered while in Georgia, along with a treasure trove of other globally inspired items mingling with locally made products.

“I always loved styling homes and putting thoughtful gifts together, so now I have turned my passion into a business,” she says.

Though the store only opened in September, there are already plans for expansion. Next year, the 1811 Bar Room will serve culinary-forward craft cocktails, with house-made syrups and premium bitters, in a cozy lounge atmosphere tucked in the back of the store.
