Permanent makeup artist Kayla Ward has all eyes on her

A full-service salon and spa, Cory’s Hair Studio & Day Spa is always adding new services. The latest? Eyebrow microblading.

Though new on Cory’s menu, Kayla Ward, a permanent makeup artist, has been doing it for years and now brings her talents to Cory’s in Middleburg Heights.

Microblading enhances your natural brows by creating an illusion of a more defined and fuller brow. Using a small blade shaped like a hair, the makeup artist feathers semi-permanent ink in the outer layer of skin, creating a natural-looking brow.

“I usually blend the ink colors to match the color of my client’s natural eyebrow, but it can be customized depending on if you want a more dramatic look,” says Kayla. “This semi-permanent, tattoo-like procedure lasts up to two years. It fades a bit over time since the ink only goes into the first couple layers of the epidermis and your skin sheds and regenerates about every four weeks.”

“I take measurements of the face and use three different tools to come up with the shape of the eyebrows,” says Kayla, noting this mapping takes the longest part of the three-hour service. “I can make your brows longer or shorter, straighter or more rounded, thinner or thicker, to best complement your facial features.

“My clients are in total control of the shape of their brows and play an integral part in the mapping process,” she adds.

Kayla also specializes in the Combo Brow, which is a combination of microblading and microshading to give the eyebrows even more definition.

“I always loved the beauty industry, as it is in my blood,” says Kayla, a mother of four boys. “My grandma owned a salon, my mom is a makeup artist, my aunt is a hair stylist and my husband is a barber. I’m so excited to join the staff at Cory’s. It is a well-known salon with a great reputation.”
