Plan more space, get more value: Here’s how Kaye Construction is making homes more functional than ever
By Laura Briedis
The sound of power tools buzzing can be heard in neighborhoods across Northeast Ohio. And leading the charge is Kaye Construction, a family-owned remodeling company that specializes in home additions and kitchen and bath renovations.
With their trademark beards—depicted on the company logo—the father-and-son trio is busy keeping up with the huge demand for home remodeling.
What’s driving the boom? During this past year, we have been forced to use our homes in new ways. Whether carving out new space to work from home or creating a place for kids to take online classes or just wanting more room when hanging out at home with the family, home renovations are making homes more functional than ever.
Home Additions
Home additions come in all shapes and sizes. From adding a second floor master bedroom and bathroom to a bump-out in the kitchen to increase the square footage in the heart of the home, to building a sunroom out back, these newfound spaces can be enjoyed for years to come.
“We are currently working on a two-story addition in North Olmsted that will add almost 1,000 square feet of living space,” says Josh Kaye, who, along with his brother, Joe, and father, Ron, owns Kaye Construction. “We are extending the living room on the first floor and then upstairs we are creating an office and master bedroom with a spacious en suite bathroom.”
“Many older homes that were built in the ‘70s and ‘80s have tiny bathrooms, so many homeowners want to renovate their home to build a more spa-like bathroom,” he says. “From new flooring to curbless showers to intricate tile work on the wall, there is so much we can do to reinvent your space.”
And though not technically a home addition, finishing the basement is one of the easiest ways to add more space. And if your basement is already finished but is dated, Kaye Construction can breathe new life into the lower level.
Whether you design it as a second family room, home gym, sports bar, movie room or man cave, you can often double your living space by finishing your basement.
Kitchen Remodels
In every home, no matter how big or small, the kitchen always seems to be the gathering space. So, if you want more space in your kitchen or to make it more functional, Kaye Construction can renovate the kitchen and make it work better for you and your family. The crew can handle everything from the flooring up to the lighting and everything in between, including countertops and backsplashes.
“A lot of older homes have walls separating each room, but nowadays people like a more open concept so we have been taking down a lot of walls separating the kitchen from the living room or dining room,” says Joe. “While this may not actually increase your footprint, you will gain more usable space and can make room for an island or pantry.”
“We can move your stove and refrigerator and reconfigure the space so you can add more cabinets,” adds Josh. “Not only will this make the house feel bigger, it will also improve the flow.”
Josh reports that some of the most popular requests are for large islands and quartz and granite countertops. And wood-look ceramic floor tiles are starting to take a bite out of the luxury vinyl plank market.
“Remodeling the kitchen gives homeowners one of the highest returns on investments by adding a ton of value to the home,” says Josh.
Outdoor Living Space
When looking to add more livable space to your house, look out front and back.
“We can build a deck in your backyard or a front porch to give your family more usable living space,” says Ron, who has been working in the home remodeling industry for more than a quarter century. He is passing along his know-how and work ethic to his sons, who he jokingly says were born with a hammer in one hand and a screwdriver in the other.
“You will find the three of us working together on every project,” he says. “Unlike bigger home improvement companies, where you never meet the owners, we oversee each job personally and work side-by-side with our tradesmen.”
“We are proud to be locally owned and family operated,” adds Josh. “Working directly with the homeowners is a primary part of our business model.”
