S&S Heating, Cooling and Sheet Metal can turn your HVAC system into an air cleaning machine
By Laura Briedis
Long before coronavirus changed the way we live, a growing number of homeowners were installing air purifiers in their homes to filter the air. But now they are proving to do much more than just removing dust and allergens.
During the pandemic, we have been diligently scrubbing our hands and surfaces to keep the virus at bay, but now many homeowners and businesses are scrubbing their air, too.
“Though we have been installing air purifiers for over a decade, this past year we added the newest technology to our offerings—Air Scrubber by Aerus,” says Mark Staron II, who is the second “S” in S&S Heating, Cooling & Sheet Metal. His parents, Mark Sr. and Gayle, founded the business in 1989. “Based on NASA technology, it combines UV light waves with a catalytic process to produce scrubber ions and hydro peroxides that destroy contaminants on surfaces and in the air.”
According to the manufacturer, it has been shown to destroy more than 99 percent of airborne and surface contaminants, such as VOCs, odors, pet dander and other allergens. And it has also proven effective on bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi.
Purifying the Air You Breathe
S&S Heating & Cooling technicians can attach the Air Scrubber directly to your HVAC system ductwork above the coils. Easy to install, this air purifier works year-round automatically when you are running your heating unit, air conditioner or fan.
In addition to the Air Scrubber, S&S offers Trane CleanEffects Air Cleaner that also reduces contaminants and purifies the air by getting rid of germs, allergens and odors.
“This whole-house air filtration system removes airborne particles and allergens from the air that passes through the filter to greatly improve indoor air quality,” says Mark, noting that CleanEffects has earned the Asthma & Allergy Friendly Certification by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
S&S Heating & Cooling offers both homeowners and business owners a free system audit to show how to monitor, clean, ventilate, dehumidify (or humidify) and improve the efficiency of their HVAC system and protect their health.
“We have a new indoor air quality sensor device that analyzes the air going through a house and prints a report to show any issues and recommends solutions,” says Mark.
Keeping Cool and Comfortable
Before the hot temperatures set in and you are running your air conditioner around the clock, you’ll want make sure the unit is in peak condition.
“We recommend that homeowners get a precision tune-up for their air conditioner once the weather reaches 60 degrees,” says Mark, noting the company has a dedicated staff of certified tune-up technicians, and all technicians are certified by North American Technician Excellence (NATE).
“Think of an annual cooling tune-up as if it were an oil change for your home,” he says. “You’d never think of going without one for your car or it wouldn’t operate properly.”
“This is a thorough two-hour service with a 30-plus item checklist,” he explains. “We don’t just look over your unit. We are tuning, cleaning, lubricating and making any necessary adjustments to keep your cooling system running at peak efficiency.”
S&S also offers a Preferred Customer Maintenance Program that can save customers money by extending equipment life, preventing costly repairs and ensuring the equipment is operating safely.
“It is important to note that many manufacturers’ warranties are void if the homeowner does not do regular maintenance,” notes Mark.
If you have been thinking about getting a new air conditioner, now is the time.
“More than just helping people stay cool this summer, we can help them save money with high-efficiency products designed to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills,” says Mark. “A new air conditioning unit can cut HVAC costs in an electric bill in half, which is an awesome return on investment.”
At S&S Heating & Cooling, the staff helps customers make informed decisions and sort through the cooling products, from the latest central air conditioners to mini splits and heat pumps. “We sell and install leading brands,” says Mark, noting the company is a Trane Comfort Specialist. “We also build our own ductwork in our sheet metal fabrication facility in Hinckley, or with our mobile truck shop. This comes in handy if we need to reroute a duct to adjust the level of comfort in a room. We are equipped to build precision fittings and complex ductwork for custom homes and commercial projects of all sizes.”
