Living your best life can require great courage and determination, especially when you are diagnosed with cancer, as I was. Yes, the Big C. Twice actually: stage 2 kidney and stage 2 breast cancer. The diagnoses helped me start to really listen, to wonder, and to change what I was doing.

I was a healthy, active person who loved sports, was adventurous and genuinely happy. But I’m also tenacious, strong-willed, stubborn and I rise to challenges. I went through multiple surgeries and months of chemotherapy. It was the battle of my life and I was determined to win it. October marks five years of being cancer-free—and I’d like to stay that way.

I was told that to reduce my chances of reoccurrence, I would need to change everything, or at least everything I was eating, like steak, burgers, and ribs. Easier said than done. Transitioning to an all-plant-based lifestyle takes work, education and support. I was lucky to have all that from my wellness doctors and cancer team.

I also wanted to share what I was learning with others trying to live a healthier and longer life. That’s when I started Sprouted Green. It took months for me to completely “sprout green,” which is what I call converting to plant-based living. I want to help others gain from my experiences, be there to support them, and help them learn how to live their best lives.

The Sprouted Green website and Transformation Workshop are built on this premise. The site features recipes, cooking guides and videos, while the Transformation Workshop is an online course that teaches you how to develop a plant-based lifestyle with 12 sequential modules that guide you through the transformation—from eliminating unhealthy foods to reading food labels to building a healthy plant-based plate.
