After being idle for so many months during the pandemic, Patty Burnett put on weight she didn’t think she could lose on her own. An astute Mimi reader, Patty read a story last April that resonated with her.

“I read about My Personal Trainer’s 20-minute, twice-a-week workout and it really appealed to me,” she recalls. “Since I was working from home, it was easy to go work out and call it my lunch hour.”

Her initial meeting with MPT’s Dan Zimmerman sealed the deal.

“I felt very comfortable with Dan,” she says. “He made me feel like, yeah, you can do this. Since I started I’ve lost about 15 pounds. And I had a lot of guidance along the way.”

That, Dan says, is the whole point.

Unlike group workouts that offer little personal attention—or gyms that may offer none at all—My Personal Trainer is just what the name implies. For 40 minutes a week, it’s all about you and your health and fitness, Dan emphasizes.

How I personally started, was my own journey looking to improve my overall health. I have been working around the clock and very busy with my family’s needs. Ever since I was young I always struggled with weight and exercising on my own turned into more of a job than something I enjoy.

I searched the internet and found really good reviews about My Personal Trainer. I was skeptical at first to understand exactly, how could 20 minutes each session change my overall health. As we all know, personal training can be expensive and I wasn’t sure how this could be a good fit for me. After meeting with Dan we went over nutrition and exercise programs that best fit my needs and my budget. I decided to come on board the next day and only after a few weeks I started to see strength gain and weight loss! I was so excited. I had to tell my brother Kosta about this program.

Now after a few months I am down 28 pounds and gained 63% strength since my first visit. Not only did my wife see the difference, my whole family started asking me what I was doing. After seeing me and hearing me talk about how easy the program was, not only did Kosta join but my wife and my mother are now on the journey with me.

I never thought of seeking out a personal trainer to help me with not only my fitness goals but just my overall health. I run a construction company and I’m always doing physical activity. I thought to myself, if my brother could make changes, I could too. How hard could it be? Eat better, exercise a little more. Things should change. I found out that changing your diet is a lot more complicated than I realized. I decided to visit Dan at My Personal Trainer for a free consultation. I shortly started to understand that what I was doing wasn’t enough. Dan made everything so comfortable and easy to understand. I really appreciated the time he spent with me to go over all the details and what I needed to do to change my current habits into healthy ones.

The workout at My Personal Trainer is done with your trainer watching every move, making sure the machines are correctly set for you and charting the results. As you progress you will gain strength, lose weight, and you’ll be a different person than when you started.

By following their program’s guidance I have now lost 16 pounds of fat and gained 9 pounds of muscle. The program exceeded my expectations. My wife was so impressed with my results she wanted to join too! After understanding how the friends and family discounts work, it was very affordable for our family. We are very grateful for all the time and dedication the My Personal Trainer team has spent with us.

Just as Dan says he found his occupational calling at My Personal Trainer, Elaine Murphy said the studio fulfilled a decades-long search for the right workout regimen.

“More than four years ago I came to the realization that my body’s strength was declining at an accelerated rate due to muscle wasting,” she says. “I researched the concept of muscle strength fitness and it resonated with me. I spent a few years with a one-on-one personal training service incorporating a high-intensity, low-impact system, for 20 minutes, twice a week. It was the prelude that led me to My Personal Trainer in Westlake. Dan worked with me intuitively knowing what I needed to succeed. He taught me the principles of eating. I lost eight pounds and I am sporting a body that’s healthy physically, mentally and emotionally.”

Proper nutrition, Dan confirms, is as much a part of the My Personal Trainer program as are the studio’s leading-edge exercise machines.

“Our program is about high-intensity anaerobic strength training,” he says. “We use only machines—not medicine balls or free weights. We don’t do pushups or pull-ups, jump ropes or use resistance bands. The workout is done with your trainer watching every move, making sure the machines are correctly set for you and charting the results. In the beginning, you’ll do six to eight machines during a session. As you progress you will gain strength, lose weight, and you’ll be a different person than when you started. The program evolves with you as you evolve.”

Barb and Mike Siegel say the program has been successful for them as their lives evolved.

“Over the years we have focused more on our children and careers than we did on ourselves,” Barb says. “We have now changed our focus to making ourselves healthier and having a better work/life balance.”

Mike admits that he and Barb were originally skeptical that the My Personal Trainer program would work.

“It has not only worked, but we feel much healthier than we have in the past,” he says. “My Personal Trainer has changed our lives.”
