Tamer Construction’s Cabinets & Designs of Ohio has earned a reputation for excellence in the areas of kitchen and bathroom remodeling

With real understanding comes inspired design. Celebrating their seventh anniversary, the designers at Tamer Construction’s showroom—Cabinets & Designs of Ohio—have earned a reputation for taking the time to understand each client’s style, personality and functionality requirements to fashion gorgeous and award-winning kitchens and baths.
Founder John Tamer, who has more than 30 years in the home renovation industry, says 2021 had been one of their busiest years ever.
Sleek Meets Earthy
Designers Lisa Monteleone and Garth Riley stay connected with the emerging trends and translate them to the Cleveland market. One of the most popular directions is mixing elements, such as sleek with earthy.
“Lots of our clients are juxtaposing white and cream cabinets with more rustic and earthy stained wood styles,” says Garth.
Another growing trend is quarter-sawn wood.
“This is lumber that’s cut in a radial manner, so the grain is vertical rather than swirled,” says Lisa. “Once people see it, they love it and want it. We have lots of people asking for it.”
And when it comes to the finer details, such as fixtures and hardware, the team says that matte is more popular than shiny, and black matte is a top seller.
Transitional Kitchen Renovation
The photos shown here—from one of the more complex kitchen renovations that John Tamer and his team produced—is a perfect representation of a white-and-woodsy combo. The designers and installers are understandably proud of how it turned out.
John explains the circa-1927 home, in the Edgewater Park neighborhood along the Lake Erie shoreline, was in dire need of a more open concept.
“We took down a wall, integrated a mud room, and built a large island as a focal point to the space,” he says. “We added all the modern amenities, such as a coffee station, yet kept the historic feel of the home, and installed a rustic beam in the ceiling. The couple chose Crystal cabinetry, which is our top line. It’s similar to fine furniture, crafted in America. We’re one of the few to offer it in the Cleveland area. Since Crystal is also a very green line, people know to ask for it.”
What are the Hottest Products?
Garth reports that customers are opting for quartz more than granite countertops, and that one of the hottest new styles is Cambria Quartz Colton, which is also made in America.
“This warm and creamy slab is shot with veins of rusty browns and grays, which make it really versatile,” he says. “Timelessly elegant, we think it resembles marble. In addition to kitchen counters, we can install thinner profiles in large panels in showers for a stunning effect.”
A Dreamy Showroom Experience
Looking at conjured photo representations online or teeny-tiny samples isn’t nearly the same as shopping live and in-person from life-sized to-die-for design-forward vignettes.
“Our sample kitchens and baths represent a lot of the trends we are seeing right now,” says John. “And our customers love getting ideas here for what they want in their own dream kitchen.”
