The brothers and owners of Lann Insurance, Dennis and Richard Lann, make choosing the right insurance coverage personal

When the operations for his neighboring businesses in downtown Willoughby stalled and then slowly began to pick up again between 2020 and 2022, Dennis Lann took action. His Facebook live segments promoted local restaurants and shops to encourage people to come back to DTW. He went to the different spots, interviewed the owners and promoted their specialties. They were hugely successful.
“Taking care of each other in times of crisis is simply the right thing to do,” says Dennis, who, along with his brother, Richard, co-owns Lann Insurance on Public Square next to City Hall. As big supporters of local business, schools, youth sports teams, churches and charities, the sons are carrying on the independent agency founded by their parents, Jim and Mary, in 1965. They offer auto, home, commercial and life insurance.
“It means a lot to us to be able to lend protection and peace of mind by offering top-rated carriers and customizing coverage for each person or family,” Dennis says. “It’s an unusual dynamic to sell people something they hope they will never need to use, but that’s the challenge we take so seriously. As independent agents, we are not locked into offering just one company, and our clients benefit from that.”
Dennis explains there are many key differences between his agency and his main competition, which is the “1-800” types of insurance companies.

Dennis says they’ve often served several generations within the same family, and earning their trust means the world to them.
“We belong to many community organizations in Lake County, including the chamber of commerce and business owner groups, and are very active in networking events,” he adds. “A few organizations that we sponsor are Willoughby South Athletics, Eastlake Soccer, Mater Dei Academy and Immaculate Conception Church. We treat our clients like our neighbors and have been blessed with enduring relationships.”
