The professionals at Kaye Construction can help you make the most out of your space, inside and out

If you have been waiting for the escalating lumber costs to creep back down before starting a new home remodeling project, now is the time to get back to your plans—full steam ahead.
According to Fortune, the historic lumber bubble is over, with prices falling 68 percent from its peak, with eight consecutive weeks of lower prices recorded these past two months.
“While lumber still is a little more expensive, it is definitely trending in the right direction and prices are coming back down to earth,” says Josh Kaye, who along with his brother Joe and father Ron, owns Kaye Construction. “If you are looking to build an outdoor deck, there is still time to enjoy it this fall.”
“Many homeowners have added pools to their backyards these past couple years, so we have been busy building decks around those pools to create places where family and friends can gather and have fun,” Josh notes.
The company just finished a 30-by-40-foot swim-out deck with a built-in grill surrounding an aboveground pool for a Strongsville homeowner. The deck was designed with a mix of two materials: wood planking floors and vinyl railings.
“We are staining the wood a natural gray color and painting the vinyl railings white, so the deck has a modern feeling,” says Josh. “We recommended a wood deck around the pool, since it doesn’t get as hot when the sun is beaming down on it, and the leaves and other debris won’t stain the deck as much. We mixed wood floors with vinyl railings that look nice and last longer.”
Kaye Construction is well versed in both wood and composite decks. “We have installed a lot of Trex decking, and we especially recommend composite planks if you have a roof or covering over the deck area,” says Josh.
A local, family-owned business, Kaye Construction specializes in home additions, as well as kitchen and bath renovations.
There are many ways to add livable space to your home—from constructing an outdoor deck in your backyard or adding a porch out front to expand your living space outdoors, to building a sunroom, adding a second-floor addition or finishing your basement.
“We are currently refinishing a basement for a retired Strongsville couple to make room for their children and grandchildren when they come to visit,” says Josh. “We are building a bedroom, nursery and full bathroom downstairs as an expansive guest room.”
By adding egress windows so there is access from the basement to the outdoors, not only will it add more natural light to make it a more inviting space, it also adds value when you sell your home.
“For us, remodeling is more than just sprucing up a home by adding new flooring or cabinets—we are always thinking about how we can make it more functional for the homeowner,” says Ron. “Function is just as important as aesthetics.”
“Over decades of working in the remodeling industry, I have found that homeowners, when possible, would rather stay in their current neighborhood and just remodel their home instead of moving,” says Ron, who has been working in the home remodeling industry for more than a quarter century. He is passing along his know-how and work ethic to his sons, who he jokingly says were born with a hammer in one hand and a screwdriver in the other.
“You will find the three of us working together on every project,” he says. “Unlike bigger home improvement companies, where you never meet the owners, we oversee each job personally and work side by side with our tradesmen.”
