The relaxed vibe at Romancing the Walls has shoppers popping in to stay awhile

For artisanal home décor—wall art, sculptures, floral arrangements, wreaths, candles, centerpieces, lanterns, collectibles, recycled wood serving pieces, local gourmet food items and hostess gifts—as well as group charcuterie classes, don’t miss Dee Schippel’s store in downtown Valley City, Romancing the Walls.

“Creating things to fit someone’s style and beautify their home is my passion,” says Dee. “I want this shop to have a small-town, laid-back, ‘come in and stay awhile’ feeling to it.”

She’s been active with the Chamber of Commerce and has created custom pieces for many community and school events.

For an elevated experience, group classes take place in the store, at a private home or other locations. Made in-house, a participant receives his or her choice of a hardwood charcuterie board. Dee teaches everything about charcuterie from its meaning (a French word for pork butcher), to how to add creativity and eye-appeal to your board. Food and drink are included in the two-hour class. She’s just started offering a chocolate charcuterie class that’s been a big hit.

“Every board should begin with the base of top-quality meats and cheeses,” she advises. “From there you can add fun things like olives, peppers, fruit and nuts. After my class, I want the hostesses to feel like they are the hero of their own party.”

Dee grew up in Olmsted Falls, and after living in Arizona for decades, came full circle by moving back home in 2019.

“I retired from selling real estate, making homes my business, so this is a natural progression to help others add sparkle to their home,” she says. “My tagline is: I see my world in color.”
