Business is business, but a time for fun may always be welcome.

The Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance’s annual clambake—presented this year by Goosefoot Acres, Home of Dandy Blend—has become so popular, suggests Debbie Boehmke, executive director of the chamber, it’s one of the many advantages of membership. This year’s Halloween-themed clambake, which was held October 6, at Bunker Hill Golf Course, sold out at 139 tickets—up from 100 registrants last year.

“When we held our first clambake a few years ago, it wasn’t intended to be one of our signature events, but it has become one,” Debbie says. “I think it’s become so popular because there is no agenda. There’s no meeting involved. It is simply a social event just to relax and have a good time with each other. We invited non-members, people brought their families, and everybody just had fun.”

Attendees, who were encouraged to come in their scariest, funniest or most creative Halloween attire for a costume contest, bid on basket raffles and a coffin filled with tasty beverages while enjoying a variety-dance show by The Alley Katz, featuring Logan Wells and Patti Anne.

A 50/50 raffle was held to raise money for YAHAB, a local non-profit that offers basic necessities of living to people who need assistance.

“We always choose a nonprofit from our membership and raise funds for them,” Debbie explains. Other local charities will have a chance to get a display table at the chamber’s non-profit luncheon at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, in Brunswick, on November 16.
