The Starving Chef Recipe: Extra Sloppy Sloppy Joes

I’ll take these sloppy joes, extra sloppy. You can also use sloppy joe filling as a topping on hot dogs or hamburgers, too (if you are feeling wild).
Extra Sloppy Sloppy Joes
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Makes: 4 servings
Ingredients
16 oz. ground beef
½ C ketchup
8 oz. tomato sauce
2 T spicy brown mustard
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1 small shallot, minced
1 T garlic, minced
¼ C brown sugar
Salt & pepper, to taste
Hamburger buns, for serving
Here’s How
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. When all the beef is browned, use a colander to strain any excess grease. Rinse with cool water then transfer back to the skillet over medium heat.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire, shallot, garlic and brown sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour over the cooked hamburger meat.
- Stir the sauce into the meat and cook until the sauce is just starting to bubble, about 10-15 minutes. Reduce the heat and cook until the sauce has thickened, another five to 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Serve on hamburger buns and enjoy!
ALTERNATIVE SLOW COOKING METHOD: Follow steps to brown meat and combine sauce. Add the cooked meat and sauce to a crock pot/slow cooker. Cook on low for four hours or on high for two hours.
