If there is one thing we learned these past two years, it is that our home is truly our sanctuary. That sentiment has spurred a boom in the remodeling industry as homeowners are not only sprucing up their homes but are also expanding the footprint to make more room for family and friends to gather.

“The red-hot seller’s real estate market has led to higher home prices, and many home buyers are paying inflated prices right now, so homeowners are choosing to stay put and renovate their current homes,” says Josh Kaye, who, along with his brother, Joe, owns Kaye Construction, which was started by their father Ron. “We have been busy this year building home additions, finishing basements and remodeling kitchens.”

Kaye Construction’s Joe (top left), Josh (top right) and Ron Kaye work together on every project.

“We are booking home additions right now for spring, so if you have been thinking about remodeling it’s time to call and get on our schedule,” says Josh. “Though we will start new home additions in the spring once the wintry weather breaks, we are working year-round on renovations inside the home, such as kitchens, master bathrooms and basements this winter.”

Here is a progression of the construction process of a room addition in Berea. Kaye Construction starts by laying the foundation.

With their trademark beards—depicted in the company logo—the Kaye family has earned a reputation for quality workmanship.

Working in the home remodeling industry for more than a quarter century, Ron Kaye learned skills from both of his grandfathers, one the ultimate do-it-yourselfer and the other a farmer, and would work side-by-side with them on home projects when he was a teenager garnering all he could from his role models. And now, a generation later, Ron has passed along his know-how and work ethic to his sons, Joe and Josh, who he jokingly says were born with a hammer in one hand and a screwdriver in the other.

Once the foundation is in place, framing begins.

“You will find us working together on every project,” says Joe. “Unlike bigger home improvement companies, where you never meet the owners, we oversee each job personally.”

This month, the company is finishing a renovation in Fairview Park where it built a master bedroom on the first floor, and another family room addition in Berea (pictured here). This 480-square-foot addition features a vaulted cathedral ceiling with pine planking and a porcelain tile flooring with an abundance of windows to create more of a sunroom ambiance.

“Home additions not only provide space for growing families, but also for seniors who want to age in place,” says Ron. “It is often much more cost effective to build an addition with everything on one floor, so you can age in place instead of moving to a retirement community.”
