The team at Bill Reynolds Heating & Air Conditioning takes care of its customers a little differently
By Patricia Nugent
All you really need to know about Bill Reynolds Heating & Air Conditioning is that the family-run business honors its namesake—father, grandfather, uncle and founder Bill Reynolds—by hanging his portrait prominently in the main office.
“His legacy is everything we stand for,” says daughter Denise Reynolds Garland, who is now president of the company. “Back in 1958, when he was 14, my dad would knock on doors asking people if they needed their furnace cleaned. A true self-made man, he slowly built the business and opened his own shop in the early 1970s. Though he passed away in 2011, I think he’d be proud that we are carrying on the values he lived by: honesty, integrity and trust.”
Today, Bill’s grandson, Devon Garland, has also joined the business as vice president overseeing operations.
“We’ve served several generations and take pride in our loyalty to customers old and new,” says Devon, who is an Air Force veteran. He also mentions they keep a stock of portable heaters to lend people in case there is ever a wait for a repair or new installation.
How HVAC Has Changed
“In our industry, equipment has become smarter over the years,” says Devon. “With more parts and functions comes a greater need for expertise in maintenance. What used to be a simple operation is now highly nuanced and technical. With smart thremostats, snowbirds can control their furnace here from their home in Florida. Thanks to the codes on their thermostat, we can diagnose a problem before we leave the shop to make a house call.”
One of the many things that separates Bill Reynolds from other companies is that they are a metal shop, too, and can custom fabricate parts to meet any need.
“This saves on wait times and makes sure customers are getting the perfectly fitting part for their system,” says Denise. “We also have a plumber on staff who is invaluable in many different situations that arise.”
A Cleaner Breathing Environment
Another advancement in HVAC equipment is how it’s engineered to keep air quality at its cleanest, filtering out dust, debris, bacteria, mold and allergens.
“Whether heating or cooling, we can ensure the ideal amount of humidity is maintained in a home,” says Devon. “This is beneficial for respiratory and skin issues, as well as the integrity of the home, for instance making sure wood floors won’t warp or crack. We also offer UV and electric air cleaners that ionize and charge the air to get rid of bacteria and viruses, including Covid.”
Here are the services they offer:
• Install and service almost all types of residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Furnace and AC tune-ups to perform preventative maintenance, inspect and keep equipment in optimal shape. Technicians can often identify a part before it fails, to avoid emergency outages in extreme weather.
• Monitoring carbon monoxide levels that your typical home monitor cannot detect.
• Services to improve air quality—UV and electronic air cleaners, as well as whole-house humidifiers.
• Annual service agreements save customers money on parts and labor when necessary.
Offering these services are highly trained technicians who continue their education and enjoy training new techs coming into the industry.
At the end of the day, the extended Reynolds family says caring for the community is what keeps them growing and thriving.
“We’re here to help people,” says Devon. “We’ve always valued service over sales.”
