Always on the lookout for ways to enhance and expand her holistic wellness operation, when the space adjacent to AcuLaser Treatment Centre became available, Founder and Clinical Director Luciana McCartney jumped at the chance. After several months of construction, she’s thrilled to open the doors to three new beautifully appointed treatment rooms. She’s also pushing the envelope by welcoming a naturopathic doctor to her integrative wellness team.

Addressing Allergies, Metabolism, Smoking/Vaping
Luciana and Brandon Drabek, ND, who specializes in naturopathic health, or functional health, are teaming up to offer three programs: Allergy Reset, Metabolic Reset and Smoking/Vaping Cessation, as well as a host of wellness services such as reiki, lymphatic drainage massage and grounding therapy.

AcuLaser Treatment Centre now includes the addition of Brandon Drabek, ND, who specializes in naturopathic medicine.

“I’m a laser nerd,” says Luciana, laughing. “The research I did on low-level laser acupuncture showed its promising effect on easing allergies. We’ve already treated a patient who was very allergic to her dog—would break out in hives—and she’s seen a dramatic lessening of symptoms. It works effectively on all types of allergies, from foods to pets and seasonal.”

The bulk of Dr. Drabek’s patients are women 30-60 experiencing metabolic and hormonal imbalance.

Luciana McCartney is the founder and clinical director of AcuLaser Treatment Centre.

“With the Metabolic Reset program, we do bloodwork to pinpoint imbalances that lead to metabolic dysfunction, fatigue, inflammation and weight gain,” he says, noting a 30- to 50-page report is generated from the draw. “I treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. Based on the report, I create a comprehensive health plan that includes nutrition, movement and stress management, as well as laser treatment. The goal is to improve a patient’s physiology and to get their systems functioning in harmony again.”

After the plan is put in place, he sees patients every six to eight weeks for re-evaluation, then spaces it out every few months to make sure they are on the right track.

Lindsay Barringer specializes in therapeutic massage.

Also joining the bustling treatment center is a new laser therapist Akos Cserhati.

Reconnecting to the Earth
Within the Zen room, Luciana says they will offer reiki and a new treatment called grounding therapy.

“All these years I’ve been researching the medical field and recently found out about grounding, which is actually a centuries-old approach,” she says. “The grounding mat sits on a spa table I invested in that stimulates the effect of connecting to the earth to neutralize the electric charge that runs through our bodies. This has a profound impact on mood, sleep, stress and inflammation. We’ve been able to calm the central nervous system and lower cortisol, which is triggered in stressful situations and not good for the body.”

Marty Nagel is a laser therapist with a focus on smoking cessation and pain management.

Luciana says several of her patients who suffer from panic attacks have noticed a decline in anxiety after several grounding sessions.

Another exciting development at AcuLaser is that Luciana and her team are starting to work with companies in the area that want to introduce mobile wellness programs and smoking/vaping cessation programs to their employees.

Luciana, who just returned from Europe where she represented the United States in a symposium on vaping, says it has become a serious global addiction.

“We are finding vaping is actually much more dangerous and more addictive than smoking,” she says. “It’s like inhaling Clorox. The chemicals go right to your brain. Using a low-level laser, we can help curb the urge to vape or smoke so people can be free of it.”

Akos Cserhati is a laser therapist with a focus on helping clients break addictions.

Coming up on its 20-year anniversary, Luciana reports the center has treated more than 10,500 clients with a 90% success rate.
